Solution to Echo Fox vs Clutch Gaming -like issues in future seasons

The call to give the win to EF is not unreasonable, but it deserves an asterisk. However, The first event that should have happened would be to give the option to take the asterisked win or replay the game given to the winning team. And that Asterisk means for all intents and purposes EF has a legitimate win, unless, at season end, Clutch is one game behind Fox. In which case a best of 3 games tie-break is called, since the outcome of the initial game could not be properly determined and needs to be. Best of 3 means that the stronger team should win making the post-season stronger, With the winning team being punished for taking the tarnished win by needing to prove dominance twice in a different meta they may not be as strong in, and the losing team needs to win once to effectively Tie the standings, then win again to beat the Tie-break proving they deserved the spot initially. It makes for good watching, from the drama and narrative perspective, when these screw-ups happen, and is far more fair to both teams in these situations. And in the event that this happens more than 2 or 3 times in a split, which has the potential to cause issues with this solution, you have bigger problems with the game where the entire season should be questioned regardless of whether you use this solution or a different solution.

The reason the game calling in Baseball works is that there are 162 games in a season, where teams face each other more a minimum of 8 times, or 17 times if they are divisional rivals. Across that many games the statistics normalize and absorb anomalies like a game or two being called early. In a season where there are 18 games total and you only face any other team twice during the regular season, an anomaly like this fucks everything up.

Before the suggestion comes out I am not forcing that game to be played again because it would cause too much flexibility for issues in the standings. If the team 1 game behind were to win it would immediately put the called winner a game behind the called loser, and everything would get fucked, (For instance, 10*-8 v 9-9* records, the game being replayed would either keep those standings losing the asterisk, or see them flip, as a win is turned in to a loss by the 10-8 team and a loss turned in to a win for the 9-9 team leaving the official outcome now 9-9 v 10-8) And because of this there would need to be a 2 game window where an 8-10* team could challenge a 10*-8 team, leading to a tie break situation if the 8-10* team were to win, effectively creating a best of 3. It all gets a little over obtuse, and is too rewarding to the initially hard-losing team, and is too punishing to the team that likely had the win in the initial game. It Would all still be interesting to watch, but the well-deserved enormous shitstorm afterward would not be worth it..

What happened to that "chrono" thing? Or does that only work for C9?

chronobreak is a function where all the little moves and commands are recorded during the game being played and when there is an issue, they can just load the file back up and let the game auto-play itself back to whatever point before the issue the ref's determine is appropriate, then play the game out as normal from there.

It has been used more than just once and for more than just C9.

The reason it was an issue here is that the game server they were playing on hard-crashed, causing possible corruption in the file and making it more difficult to recover, as (According to Jatt) when they replayed back to a reasonable point in the game to let players take over again, the game servers once again hard-crashed again. Thus the Refs were left with the option of calling the game, or replaying it entirely.

Honestly LCS should just be best of 3s in general. I know not all players can watch it but it's an unreasonable expectation that a couple games against every team determines how good you're considered. There's cheese strats, small errors, and meta shifts that will create inconsistency which will hurt teams that are above the curve and the best of 1 system basically ignores this entirely. Really the only benefit to best of 1 is quick viewing and that won't ever make NA LCS competitive at worlds or other international events since they're not thinking in the perspective of beating a team in a series.
