What If?

We all know that a large portion of Competetive league viewership comes from NA with EU claiming a pretty distant second. They are easily the two most popular (worst?) regions competitively.

Viewership numbers have dipped pretty hard in the past once NA and EU teams get kicked out of worlds which makes for a pretty lackluster championship game experience.

Which makes me think... if C9 and FNC (Misfits) meet in the Championship game by some miraculous turn of events, just how high do we think these viewership numbers can get? No doubt it will be the most watched Worlds Championship of all time... though the bad NA time for the game would be a detriment...

Guess I’m just curious how massively popular the championship game would be if it was NA V EU. I dream a dream.

RNG or WE making the finals would surpass any other, due both to China having a lot larger viewer base and a favorable air time.

The viewership numbers you are talking about are form twitch and YouTube. Korean have an actual channel to watch it, which is aspopular as their online streams. China also have another way to access and watch

You’re viewership is based on NA and EU audience. I’d imagine a counter with nearly 1 billion people has a better chance to pull in more views if their team is at finals.

With that said, group stages always have higher views then knock out or semi finals. Groups stages pretty much all regions are involved and everyone tends to participate. At 3 AM k saw 600k+ viewers on twitch alone. I think only the finals will match that number. If eu and NA are in the finals, the numbers will probably be the same. But I can tell you this, the what if is after the game. I can’t imagine how much more new fans those teams will pick up if you see them at the finals.

C9 gained so much popularity because of pulling off huge comebacks, being top 2, being very consistent, and having a good roster. Seeing them in finals would only boost it

Population isn’t really something I’m factoring in. Popularity of the sport within the region and viewership numbers doesn’t nescessarily rely on population.

The choice to Franchise NA and China and not the other regions has a lot to do with viewership as well based on what I’ve read, though RIOT wasn’t specific with the numbers.

I just know viewership for an NA v EU would be way above viewership for a Korean V Korean final.

As for the building of fan bases, C9 and FNC are already in the top 5 biggest fan bases in Competetive league, so sure, maybe not much growth there, but I think a finals appearance for Misfits would be a MASSIVE boost.
