Cloud9 came into the series with a great draft phase
But game 5 their draft was garbage. Mystic had been playing out of his mind all series, all of Worlds on
who is a monster in the worlds patch with how strong Ardent Censor is.
Cloud 9 had seen how strong Janna was, and how much it impacts their ability to play into WE. And Galio had been banned the whole series.
Yet in game 5, Cloud9 gives over Janna, Kog AND Galio??? The game was over from there. Those should have been the top 3 bans for C9. PapaSmithy said it didnt matter if they banned the Kog, as they would have gotten Cait then, but we had seen how Mystic had played on Cait in game 3. Trading Janna/Lulu bans?? Janna is 10 times better at blocking engages than lulu, and WE is all about protecting WE. Lulu is great at keeping 1 person alive. Janna can reset fights by herself. And add Galio on top of that? The damage reduction and further disengage means that Kog maw turns into Juggermaw.
Not only that, but look at C9 game 5 bans. Kalista, RUMBLE, cho, JAYCE AND XAYAH??? 3, maybe 4 of those bans are questionable. Now I know that Kalista has been banned almost 100% of the games at worlds, which I really dont understand. A low range carry who doesnt build crit and doesnt exactly snowball out of lane. IDK why the high ban rate. If I was coaching I would allow Kalista through 100% of the time, then pick trist/kog/twitch and a large frontline and front-to-back teamfights against her and win 100% of the time.
Now about the other bans from game 5... RUMBLE?? Rumble? Like really? What even made Reapered throw this ban?? SMH. Total waste of a ban that allowed more priority picks through for WE. Xayah, mystic would probably still have picked Kog, and if he didnt its probably a better thing for C9. Jayce?? This was a second phase ban. They already knew that WE had Kog, so they were going to be wanting teamfights, yet they ban a non-teamfight champ. And lastly Cho. Normally I wouldnt have something against this, but C9 was already leaning towards going Shen, and Shen-Cho matchup is great for shen. So in reality, this is another throw ban. All in all C9 bans in game 5 were garbage.
Which sucks, because in the previous 4 games, C9 and Reapered had drafted great, innovating teams. They had done their homework and played great in games 1-3. Even in game 4 they looked good.
But game 5. That game was a dodge. That game was over before they loaded onto the rift. Once WE had their core of Kog/Janna/Galio and C9 had already drafted Cait, the game was over. Cait doesnt have the damage to kill tanks, at any point of the game.
If they had to do it over again, C9 should have banned Kog/Galio/Janna. If WE takes Lulu, you take Xayah/Rakan, or if they adapted their own bans, you take alternate support (Rakan/Taric/Nami) and J4. (J4 is better than Sej. Teams are overrating Sej) If they pick cait in return, you pick trist/twitch/Jynx in that order. (or Xayah if you have Rakan. But there is no way they give you xayah rakan.) Jensen on Orianna. Impact on Cho/Mao/Shen, again in that order. WE is great on playing a straight forward 5v5 teamfight through Mystic. Break that up, take away mystics shields/heals and tools, and C9 would of had a much better chance of playing in the Semis.
