I can't speak for the entirety of playoffs, but in that game I know that Karma built a huge CS lead on Aatrox early game, and I think that's the point. Although the pros do some interesting things. (I haven't seen Sona + Taric bot lane work once but they played it sooo much)

Team Liquid is one of the few teams that can make Sona-Taric work well. For a recent example check out game 5 between TL and CG.
