So I played my first game in a hot minute yesterday and after reading the patch notes I thought,

"Boy! Ekko JG is making a comeback! I'm going to give it a go!"

Then I played him... and got smashed. I'm not the best Ekko player, but I have him mastered and I still got smashed. I was completely irrelevant. After the game, I typed in the post game lobby, "Man, Ekko sure is trash in the jg."

Then I watch LCS today... and my statement was proven. I'm actually curious why he was picked so many games in a row after losing every single game.

I'm no Ekko main and while tanks in today's league/meta is laughable and overall garbage I do think going Season 6 Ekko is the better option. You really don't have to do much to get your dmg off or get kills in league these days but surviving is another story.
item 3152 item 3706 is understandable but to continue to build damage is the reason on why I think it's not what it could be.
I personally would love to see item 3111 item 3193 - Prefer these items more so.

I chalked it up to SoloQ mob mentality. It's doing good there but the problem is just that. It's going good which means teams will know how to punish it if aware enough. And believe me...everyone's aware so far.

Yeah, I suspect it's a thing that pro teams had such a notable heads-up that Jungle Ekko might be viable again that they've come up with different counters for it (or at least have a lot of practice playing around it). So while it's TECHNICALLY strong, that strength is neutered in a pro-team environment.

That or it becomes a Garen/Yuumi thing where only one team ever wins with it but they win with it REALLY hard.

I think the difference may be when some of the elite junglers and teams get Ekko in their comp. I do scratch my head at Ekko being allegedly "OP" when he's not at his best until 6. There are better jungler champs who can gank and dive at level 3, while Ekko can get BADLY punished for it.

He was buffed a few times recently, CD on w and r. Plus a 10 damage at all ranks on his e. Not exactly earth shattering. I think its more of he has been strong for a long time, just not popular
