Hi folks,

Usual Disclaimers

These posts will often contain talk about future work we're doing, or planning to do, that isn't yet guaranteed to ship. The nature of the work could change or, depending on what we discover, projects mentioned may get delayed or even stopped. If you'd like to see a Tweet whenever a new one of these posts goes up: https://twitter.com/RiotMeddler

Bringing back older TFT sets

TFT: Rise of the Elements is on the PBE now and should go live in a couple of weeks. When it does so it will replace the initial set of TFT champions/traits. It likely won't be the last time you'll ever get a chance to play that original launch set though. Our plan is to bring older Sets back occasionally, potentially for things like a weekend tournament or as a change of pace for a couple of weeks as an alternative queue. We don't have an exact plan on that yet, but are working to make sure it's technically possible right now. Likely approach would be that old Sets returning would bring Champions, Traits, Spatula items and set specific rules (e.g. Elemental Hexes from set 2) back with them. Updates to the fundamental game rules that have been made since by contrast will remain consistent across sets. That means whenever Set 1 returns for example it would do so on the larger board but wouldn't have Elemental Hexes.

Frequency of new TFT sets

On a related note another thing we're putting a lot of focus on right now is figuring out how frequently we should be swapping in a new TFT set. We want to find the sweet spot between things getting too stale and things changing too rapidly to be fun. We suspect that's somewhere around the four month mark, hence the upcoming launch date for Rise of the Elements. Based off the feedback we get with Set 2 we'll then adjust the timeline for future sets as appropriate.

Climbing back up from low honor

A frustration point we see expressed sometimes is that it feels like it takes an eternity to climb back from Honor 0 to Honor 2. How long it takes to climb actually varies a lot player to player. A player who plays an average amount and is no longer getting reported more than the average LoL player should get back to Honor 2 in around a couple of months (the system has some minimums in place for both time passed and number of games played). Some players with similar engagement patterns progress a lot slower though. When that's the case it's because the player in question is still getting significantly more legitimate reports than average, substantially slowing their climb back to higher Honor levels.

Preseason Jungle Tuning on PBE

As you might have seen yesterday we're testing out some potential further changes to jungle XP on the PBE at present. Those involve less XP per camp and faster camp respawns, with the intent being to relieve excessive pressure to gank constantly to succeed. Conceptually we're optimistic on the changes and they're something a lot of junglers have expressed desire for. We're still thinking of them as somewhat experimental right now since they've just gone into testing, but are looking to validate them over the coming week and increase confidence in them.

Individual Champion Balance in Preseason

Our plan for preseason is to see where the various systems changes land and then balance as needs be in response to them, rather than preemptively trying to adjust champion balance off predicted impact. Preemptive changes historically have had a pretty mixed success rate (e.g. Ahri getting substantially overbuffed in response to DFG's removal). That means we won't be making changes to Ezreal for example without seeing how Klepto's removal affects him or to tank supports until the impact of the Targon's changes is clear. We will prep some possible responses ahead of time so we've got them ready to go quickly if needed though.

Why are you not making AP bruiser items? You can easily solve mages abusing it by making it melee only like steraks..

Darian46510/25/2019, 3:42:40 PM16 votes

Heyo! I was wondering if mage items will be tackled since it seems like these items are very strong for their price 2.6k for 70 AP and 40% Magic pen item 3135 2.5k for a short-damaging dash, 300 HP, 60 AP, and 10% CDR item 3152 2.7k for 33 Magic pen item 3020+item 3916

These items just seem very overloaded for their price and it doesnt seem like there are any reliable defensive items:

item 3065 2.8k for 55 MR, 450 HP, 10% CDR, Extra Regen and Healing (Costs more than the Sorc shoes and Orb combo, which then will only give you an additional 22MR, even less if they have void staff) item 3194 2.8k, gives less hp than spirit, and the passive is not effective against mages who use different spells to kill you.

EDIT: Not to mention item 3285 giving 20% CDR, 600 Mana, 90 AP, and a 100 bonus damage passive for 3.2K.

I went on PBE to test Galio and i have no idea what is Galio suposed to do now he was signifficantly nerfed for using the current version of aftershock too well then now on PBE aftershock is straight up halved on Galio

so now ur stuck with half of the value u currently have until atleast ur second item if u decide to go ROA or protobelt or even ludens you will be forced into buying 2 defensive items in a row if u even wanna reach ur old value and also bonus HP instead of max hp means u lost so much damage from the proc too.

maybe Riot doesnt want Galio to use aftershock anymore. But if so his other keystone puts him at arround 44-46% winrate.

Only reason tanky galio worked without aftershock is cuz ur Q was strong enough to do damage with only a little bit of AP required but now you need to go FULL AP just to reach what ur Q did with barely any AP.

Hi Meddler, any chance to make the custom item sets over 100 limit?

You see, there is already 145 champions in league and will soon have 3 new champions, can you at least make it possible for every champion to have a unique custom item set?

Small Boobs Ahri10/25/2019, 3:36:51 PM8 votes

Hello Meddler, would it be possible to have the new patch to add the possibility to choose all the languages available in the world?

And if possible do it to also choose a different language for the voices and text ! I would love to play LOL in English but have the Japanese voices for example !

Whats the point of conqueror changes? I thought the point was to give some power into it with removal of true damage, but for now it looks like only nerfs. Because conqueror was supposed to be anti-tank rune of some sort?

Conqueror live : 18 AD 8% true damage conversion and 8% premitigation healing

Conqueror PBE : 30 AD 15% POSTmitigation healing(which is worse than current at like 95 armor)

Fervor : 64 AD + 8% armor pen in mastery just above it

Also not to mention that GRASP/Thunderlords are basically better than in old masteries

Is there any thought to reversing the change where supports cannot proc the quest after they hit the tier 3 item?

ModThe Djinn10/25/2019, 3:40:09 PM6 votes

Hey there, Meddler!

Given that the Elemental Rift effect brings with it some fairly major changes, I imagine you have explored making the Elemental Rift known in champion select. May I ask what you found the pros/cons of this were, and why you've opted to keep it hidden?

There are some solid arguments on either side (I can especially see it dictating picks too much, but also opening up some situation-specific picks as new priority picks, the former being potentially detrimental but the latter being the potentially beneficial flip side), so I'm curious to see what your team's thinking here was.

Secondarily, are you exploring putting the melee-beneficial options that Doran's Shield is testing with on other common starts like Doran's Blade, Doran's Ring, and Corrupting Potion to keep early itemization flexible for melee-into-ranged match-ups? Something as simple as "Melee Only: Take X less damage from ranged champion auto-attacks" might be worth exploring, although I supposed I'd worry a bit about mid-lane assassins.

Will Skarner be looked at during preseason: where do you think he will land? especially jungle? Main concern are the dragons and his spires: with dragons getting more important, skarner's spires will be even more important to setup objectives, so they'll be contested more, and they're already easily contestable. Also added terrain restricts the spires area, and allow the ever increasing mobile champions to outplay him more, and he already struggles against them

Yesterday's jungle tweaks sure have improved his situation, however the delay on his 6 might hurt him, but that can be offset by the new conq which is good on him. Also aftershock tweaks benefit his tankier builds.

Nimbus Cloak: if NC becomes too good on skarner, will he nerfed, or the rune will?

Toplane skarner: even if that's an offrole, you think he'll benefit from increased exp by getting to 6 earlier? this and the rune changes might improve his toplane position.

Where spires in the alcoves ever discussed? idk how much would the add, but there seems enough space to play around them.

Thank you

Hey meddler with the removal of the whole Raptorcloak item line, will there be other Splitpush items added at all? item 2053 item 3512 item 3056

I still don't want the item removed since the reasoning seems flawed and stopwatch item 2423 is more of a problem than Raptorcloak Items, Surely Ohmwrecker is the least used item, but Zzrot and Raptorcloak itself has more users than Shurelya'sitem 2065 but it's getting a rework but not Raptorcloak? Why not make the Item's Void Spawns, Range and HP, Scale with adaptive stats and HP and lvl. So Splitpushers and even AP Tanks like Singed can still use it. commented about this aswell in the past.

there must be a way to make the item better or let it build into other items such as Righteous glory or Deadmans Plate. item 2053 -->item 3800 or item 3742

Already said more on Riot Scruffy's Post, but all were dismissed or not discussed so hoping to atleast hear some good news like maybe item 3005 being worked to be released, since it was held back because it seemed problematic or too strong, But item 3161 was released instead... Yeah... Weird. Plz don't remove the item without even trying, since it was Told the item would be worked on 7 Months ago, Only for it now to be removed.

Ohmwrecker even had a VFX update on PBE a while ago, I was hopefull a combo of Zzrot and Ohmwrecker was made, Or you guys reworked the items. Only to be told they are removed.

Plz if you did have something out for them, let us see it and give feedback, rather than just scrap it internally and delete the item. Banner of Command was also promised to make its return when possible and that it will most likely be done for the next pre-seaosn but here we are...

DCYOUNG88810/25/2019, 4:02:29 PM5 votes

What happened to Umbral Hydra? Is it still coming to the PBE or did the item get scrapped?

EDIT: also how have you been doing? Yesterday was my birthday and also I was wondering if there will be any previews for Senna before she hits the PBE next week.

AIQ10/25/2019, 4:19:28 PM5 votes

For jungle the re-spawn timers are definitely a good nerf to gankers. Another lever you could possibly use is decrease minion XP for incomplete jungle items when another laner is present. This makes taxing after a gank less valuable and staying there hurt the more they camp.

Quick efficient ganks will still have a ton of value especially if it doesn't interrupt their farm, but staying at an inopportune time for a while will hurt.

Would now not be a good time to explore options for Shvyanas passive? Since each dragon is doing something unique the lackluster passive on Shyvana could be changed.

ModWulf Helhammer10/25/2019, 3:28:07 PM5 votes

Hey Meddler! I was wondering, what language are Riot's games coded in?

Chubbles10/25/2019, 3:34:27 PM4 votes

Meddler what is the plan for the balance framework Riot put into place? As a Sona one trick it feels like it was mostly lip service to calm Reddit during the Riven stuff. Sona got nerfed when she didn't fit the criteria, counters like blitz were buffed when they didn't fit the criteria, and she's just going to be left like that. Now preseason is coming, XP and gold are going to drop even more for a champ that really wants a ton of both. Still feels like the balance team is playing favorites. "Here's an acceptable band for champion strength, but we purposefully push some champions to the high end and some to the low end just because we like some champs more." Sorry for the whining, but it's annoying when I thought you guys were going to be more objective about balancing.

Ronin Tamos10/25/2019, 4:21:28 PM4 votes

Question might have already been answered but have not seen the answer anywhere...so

Regarding the fact that with the T3 Upgrade to Support items removes the gold generating passive, how do you think supports should generate income after reaching this point in the game?

Simple Minion Farming can't be done efficiently with most tank supports as they lack the dmg to do so and are expected to stay with their respective carries most of the time.

I know about the 1,5k we don't have to spend on upgrades but honestly...thats only a pair of T1 Boots and half the buildpath towards Solari or any other different item meant for this class.

Lord Raphel10/25/2019, 4:54:59 PM3 votes

Hey Meddler, how are you? I want to know the reason why did you guys do that with item 3303 Spellthief's Edge? Tier 1 mana regeneration removed; Tier 3 gold generation passive removed; Who will want to play as support now? You guys are killing an entire player base. What is the point of this? Force support champions to buy item 1056 Doran's Ring? Or just play all games with Xerath Xerath?

Many League players play as support precisely because they don't have to worry about getting gold. Removing the gold generation passive is already a HUGE change that will cause fights and discussions within the allied team, now remove mana regeneration? This is an enormous nerf. I have been testing at PBE now and it will be unfeasible to play as support now this season. I honestly won't be playing SR as long as it goes on like this. It is impracticable to play this way.

If you guys want to continue with these changes, change the value of the items so that at least the support player can leave base with a item 1004 Faerie Charm at the beginning of the game

Hey Meddler, first time ever posting to one of these. I was curious though. Are there any possible plans for Poppy in the future? She hasn't been in the greatest of spots for quite sometime, between identity issues and simply being countered by common sense the higher up the ladder you go. Seeing the work being done with Garen, Annie, Wu, ect has given me hope that while a full VGU isn't needed, some general GU is always an option.

Linna Excel10/25/2019, 3:36:52 PM1 votes

Meddler, now that we have an AD assassin support and an ADC support, are we going to be seeing AD tanks, bruisers, and fighters move into the role as well?

IStarXI10/25/2019, 4:48:21 PM1 votes

On the topic of Ezreal If he did need some tuning after the klepto changes came out, how long would that take? Like would it be in the next patch or would it be a hotfix. Also does him having a 47% game win rate and a losing win rate against ALL other adc's in the game at the moment affect the possible tuning?

Eleshakai10/25/2019, 3:30:31 PM1 votes

In your internal tests, how have you seen the terrain changes impact the support champion pool, and the overall availability of vision?
