Clash

We've now run tests of the new Clash system in Turkey, Latam South and, just this last weekend, NA. They've gone really well overall. In the NA test we did see some significant lag spikes in a few games, digging into it those were caused by some new server hardware that needed to be configured slightly differently than the existing hardware. We've corrected that so, fingers crossed, shouldn't be seeing that issue again.

Looking to the future we'll have some more details about next tests in other regions in an Ask Riot post next week. Assuming those go well we'll then be looking at a global beta in every region.

Teemo changes in 9.18

We've got some Teemo changes coming in 9.18. They're based in part off some of the larger Teemo work we explored earlier in the year. Focus here however is more on useability/clarity and fixing some points of unneeded frustration, rather than attempting to reshape his strengths and weaknesses a bit as well. Details:

  • Blinded enemies now have a light green tint on their screen to make it clearer they're blinded

W

  • Now has a clearer timer for remaining duration of the buff

R

  • Shrooms now check for nearby enemies more frequently. They should feel a bit more responsive in general. Also ensures enemies moving really quickly can't pass through some of their area without triggering them.
  • Shrooms no longer detonate on Scuttlecrabs who aren't in combat. Makes keeping shrooms in the river much more practical.
  • Shrooms can bounce off other shrooms multiple times, letting you deploy them a bit further away in some circumstances.
  • Max ammo's now 3/4/5, increasing late game relevance a bit

Initial thoughts on 9.17 balance

Early days, a few initial thoughts though:

  • Panth seems to be performing pretty solidly now post buffs. No plans to add further power to him right now as a result, keeping an eye too to make sure we haven't now made him too strong.
  • Ryze currently seems to be doing quite well in solo queue, especially compared to his historical average. Feeling really glad we went with only one of the buffs we were testing during 9.17 development as a result.
  • Aurelion Sol and Kayle are both looking a bit weaker statistically. Both have had moderate changes to how they're optimized though and are getting a lot more play than previously. Giving them some time to settle as a result. Wouldn't be at all surprised if they're stronger on 9.17 than before even if it takes a bit more time for that to become really clear.

TFT AI bugs

We fixed some TFT AI bugs in 9.17 that should address at least a fair number of cases of units freezing up in the middle of combat. We're still looking into some other possible issues, including around melee unit pathing. If you're still seeing units freeze feedback/details much appreciated, getting those issues addressed is one of our priorities for TFT.

Hi, Meddler. Recently you guys posted a preview of what you were working on in preseason including some possible item deletions. I'm worried because one of the items mentioned was Mikael's Crucible, which I completely disagree should be targeted in a "shop clean-up" pass. Mikael's Crucible has been built more than 350 times in competitive play between patches 9.16 and 9.12. I find it one of the most satisfying items in the game to use, as well as one of the most skill expressive on a class that typically feels somewhat linear in their decision-making. Is Mikael's really being considered for removal?

I really dont know how I personally feel about the teemo shroom change. Will you be removing some of the damage in exchange for the buffs? Particularly the holding more buff?

Another patch and our scorpion still doesn't get what he deserves. Why the actual fuck are you going to release 3 new champs in a row when some that you already have are completely abandoned? This is mostly unrelated to any point you made in your post, but do you think the devs will plan on making unobtainable skins ever available again? Skins such as Draven Draven that were previously purchaseable, or Unchained Alistar and Riot Girl Tristana who were previously free skins but retired since August 1st, 2018? I can understand the Draven skin being gone for good since it was April Fools Event Exclusive, but Garen's free promotional skin, Dreadknight Garen, remains in the shop for 975 RP, wouldn't it make sense to share the trend to the other 2 previously free promotional skins and make them purchaseable?

Note that these skins aren't "Legacy", they are "Limited". Victorious, PAX, and a couple others like Preorder skins and others totally should stay unavailable, but skins like the 3 mentioned could have some application such as part of the honor system alongside Grey Warwick and Medieval Twitch.

Hey meddler!!!! Thought about Riven and Irelia current state? Riven after the nerfs and buffs for other toplaners feels so weak in toplane and her winrate drop too much and Irelia in soloq is too weak but still strong in competitive.Any thoughts?

So now you are interested in small incremental changes?? Remember when you removed the W root, changed his E bounce, removed shield, nerfed Enhanced Q damage at every level before like lvl 16, made it tied to R rank so 1-2 levels before getting ult rank it feels TERRIBLE.

Should have incrementally changed him from the start. The W lack of root was fine. The E doing no damage on spread was fine. Nerfing Q move speed early was fine. Removing the shield lowered the skill ceiling significantly.

Please revert some changes. I speak for a lot of Ryze mains that you seemingly ignore.

Hey Meddler As a fellow Zyra main, please do something about her plants. Her current gameplay is pretty boring and clunky. You just wait for an RNG passive to do something and your pets just get demolished my things like MF's E, Irelia Q or any melee, and plants don't even have enough time to attack.

Yes, Ryze with averagely 46-48% WR, 1-3% pickrate and almost 0 proplay presence (niche pick into gangplank top) is balanced and doing quite well in soloq. Of course.

Meddler is there a possibility for Aurelion Sol to get the W toggle back at lvl 9 jsut like Urgot? i rememebr reading that the main problem with W was that it brought a lot of power early game. So maybe with this the problem would be fixed and we could get a bit of his old DOT identity back?

Hello meddler, got a few things to ask. Firstly, any idea when that post about prestige points will be coming out? (even though there was that leak from garena in late July I still think it's be nice to see riot properly address it)

Secondly, earlier this year in a Riot pls we were told about celebrations for the games 10 year anniversary, but since then we've seen nothing to celebrate the past and instead many of these past (you call them Legacy) options being put onto the chopping block, do you feel there is a disconnect between Riots messaging and Riots actions here.

Edit: Yes, I know neither of these are about gameplay, but you're one of the only Reds who really extends the olive branch to these types of questions.

Any thoughts on the state of Dark-Seal + Corrupting Pot synergy, whether it's too powerful for it's ability to sustain it's users, or giving too much offense for it's sustain? Or is it alright?

I was wondering if by chance, will there be a Nexus Blitz in rotation at any point this season?

Are there going to by any PVE Modes like Odyssey, that allows for Odyssey skins to interact with the environment?

There are soccer skins and I was wondering if the soccer skins could interact with a map like Nexus Blitz, where we move an objective as a team, like a soccer ball?

Hey Meddler,

I have a suggestion that problably the whole LoL community will like. When you play Custom games it's a pity to have the 3 minutes timer for spectators that want to see the game in live. Could you make it that if all the players on both teams agree, the timer gets removed?

Hai Meddler, Will XP share be changed again for Season 10? Back to when Top/Midlane had the highest lvl and Toplane mostly always having 1-4 lvls above every other laner depending how well they farmed or sometimes just by default. Such as Top having 2 lvls on Botlane way back in season 4-7. But I don't know when it got changed but now even Supports can have the same lvl as a Toplaner and that brings in 1 Problem, they can be as tanky as they are at that moment and ontop of that the Toplane Tank itself isn't tanky enough to handle a laneswap or a Botlane that snowballed.

Which is why everyone get's one shot in a span of 5 seconds these days. since when Does Nautilus look so squishy? even when he was in toplane he Q's in then dies instantly. I can have 300+ Armor as Ornn but due to the ADC being the same lvl as me, His dmg is enough to just melt me instantly and I can only use 1 rotation of spells before I'm a goner.

My Point is that Champ stats need a rework, atleast The Melee to Juggernaut to Tank ones. to where they actually gain a lot of HP per lvl or more Armor. An example is like this: Not certain how much a basic Tank is gaining these days but this is just a sample. Melee: 50 HP per lvl , Juggernauts/immobile Melee's like Olaf: 75, Tanks: 100

So the equivalent of it is 1.0 > 1.5 > 2.0 and every other Champion has values below that to show that they are suppose to be squishier and even if they're items are heavy in HP like Morrello's and Liandry making LB's have 3k HP these days, atleast a Swain which is Mage that should have the HP stats of a Juggernaut or Melee, so he would be atleast be around 4k HP compared to the LB's and other Mages stats.

This would also move the meta away a bit from Crit heavy to Bork and On-Hits a again bringing more Variety to the adc pool, Vayne is always decent, but we'll see more Twitch/Kog/Ashe I guess.

Also How's the item shop rework going? Plz tell me you're optimizing item builds and making something like: item 2053 +item 1011 =item 3742 item 3512 +item 3056 = New Item called Who knows what since I heard both are being removed and remade into one item: Every big Voidling Spawn from the Portal will Disable The Tower for X Seconds scaling off of Champion lvl. Rot Portal's HP scales with it's user's HP, Armor and MR. (Spells can be used on it) Voidling Spawnrate scales with HP, Spawnrate is increased by 0.5x /50% per 500HP. Voidling Dmg scales with Champion lvl Voidling distance scales with AP

Plz tell me Atma's item 3005 is coming back in pre-season and Will have a HP component like Jaurim fist or Kindlegem since it's HP based. and Will Cowl item 3211 be buffed since it's price is pretty high but shitty effectiveness these days...

I know it's already been stated quite a bit, but, these Aurelion changes feel really bad for the theme and playstyle of the champion. I know Riot wants to try something new, but this is /not/ the direction it should be taken. I cannot emphasize enough just how much I dislike these changes, to the point that after 500k in the champion- more then any other Champ I play, I am no longer going to play him in this iteration. I tried it on PBE and gave it a fair shake, gave my feedback in several different mediums and gotten... Radio silence. And the rest of the Sol players feel the same. Can we at least get a comment? Something to show you're paying attention? Anything? Because at this point, it feels like we're just being gutted and ignored.

Hey @meddler, any plans on tweaking Viktor? He feels completely forgotten as a champion , he's been sitting at a 47-48% winrate for quite literally a year now and by the Champion Balance Framework has needed a buff for a long time now. It always feels bad when champions like Xerath and Jax gets buffs and Viktor is forgotten in a corner :(
