@Wuks: 'in reply to' feature is awesome but...

...but I have a couple QoL questions / issues to bring up regarding the feature:

  1. Does it preserve the comment you are replying to in the state it was in when you replied, or does it change if the person you are replying to edits their comment?

  2. When using the reply button in chronological view, it both uses the new 'in reply to' feature and a direct quote of the other comment in the body of your comment. This feels slightly unnecessary and clunky to use. Can the default please be changed to do only one of these?

Complaints and QoL issues aside, I really like the new feature! Thank you for putting the time into developing and improving the boards! I personally really appreciate all you've done and continue to do :D

We appreciate the feedback.

I'll link this to Wuks so he can see it.

Thanks for taking the time to write up your thoughts; I definitely appreciate them!

To answer your questions:

  1. It doesn’t preserve the original comment state, and rather pulls it up in its current state. It’s more of a live context, with steps cut out in the middle where you’d otherwise have to reload the page to read the parent if not properly quoted.
  2. For the sake of consistency, we’ll probably just keep it on since we can’t always rely on people to properly quote who they’re responding to. This feature will most definitely be more valuable in boards where Discussion View is also enabled, and of course, if GD ever gets Discussion View. I can review the clunkiness feedback at a later date, but for now, I’m working to find a good point where I can say, “Yup, this is what the Boards should look like.” Changes both big and small are in the works, and we’re hoping to get things wrapped up soon.

Thanks again for the questions and feedback!

Gotta say after a few days with the feature that I really like it as a concept and it works well in practice.

Kudos.
