An uncommon but very frustrating problem when browsing the boards

HalcyonDweller··2 votes·2,206 views

Facebook is disabled at my work. This means that whenever I load a boards page it gets stuck on the part where it says "performing a TLS handshake with facebook.com"

I don't know if this is connected, but it does seem to contribute to improperly embedded image or video links in comments and posts that I view.

It would be nice to have images and videos load properly, and if facebook handshaking is interfering with that would it be possible to switch the order of loading operations so it does everything else before commonly blocked websites like facebook are loaded?

Anybody else have a similar problem or know of a workaround?

Hey HalcyonDweller!

We've identified the issue with embedding images and other content on the Boards, and we have folks working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. As it stands, it should be resolved either today or tomorrow. Thanks for your patience!

Why are you here during work seems irresponsible to me

I browse between tasks. Thanks. And I work long days to make up for it. This is off-topic, do you mind?

Your work most likely has facebook blocked to keep you on topic but you just go here instead and ask for it to be fixed when it only involves people who are doing this they shouldnt be doing

I have time in between when I'm needed to work on things. I could sit and stare at the wall instead but that seems stupid.

And like I said before, I stay longer specifically because I want to work the full 8 hours despite not having things to do between tasks.

You aren't helping anything here and you're still insulting me, please buzz off.

That’s...stupid. Don’t stay at work any longer just because you didn’t work 8 hours. You don’t owe your employer anything.

I work in IT and I sometimes have enough time between tickets (I specialize in robotics so I don’t take the standard muh keyboard isn’t working tickets) that I can watch 2 hour movies at work.

That doesn’t mean I’m going to stay 10 hours because they didn’t pay me for 10 hours. They paid for for 8.

Well my employer is awesome, they treat us very well (between performance based bonuses and even letting us off early some days) so I do feel that I owe them some additional effort in return for that.

I'm salary not hourly, so for the most part I can't get in trouble for working a little long or a little short every once in a while. It all works out in the end; I get my stuff done, my employer is happy, and I still get to browse the boards for the most part.

And I don't work late all the time, mostly just when I have something I'm itching to finish or when I feel like I've spent too much time on the boards that day.

Finishing up work is completely different then staying longer simply for browsing the boards.

Especially if you have actual work that could of been done.

I get the work done anyway, and it doesn't cost them anything for me to be there longer. We take time to talk amongst each other and take walks and such during the workday too, and nobody cares that we aren't working then. I don't see the difference as long as I still give my full effort for 8 hours minimum per day.

No I meant that’s fine.

I thought you were some 16 that was worried about looking good or something.

Just ignore me.

Oh okay. Sorry if I came across a bit combative. Didn't intend to be, just a little on edge from some stupid stuff I've been dealing with elsewhere.
