A couple of ideas to improve the boards.
League of legends is a massive game, and has one of the most active boards communities I've ever seen. That being said, I think theres a few things that could immensely improve the boards, and from a coding standpoint, they shouldn't be that hard to implement. I am a loser, and spend too much time on the boards, usually lurking in posts, with the occasional comment here and there.
**1. Boards profile improvements: **
-
Extend the character limit on our quote (in client) and give us an option to edit it here. This will be visible when you hover over the name of a player on your post.
-
Improve the hover-over player name. As of now it shows your name, the summoner icon you're using, and a couple of badges no one really knows the meaning of. Why not give players the option to show their rank, perhaps replace the summoner icon with a champion portrait (similar to the champion circles around the minimap)
2. Sorting Posts
-
It may be a stretch to ask for, and this would require a (well needed) website update surely. It would be awesome to have separate board categories for each role you play. Juggernaut, mage, Vanguard, Marksmen etc. This would be a place where people could go to learn and share strategies for each role they play. World of Warcraft has a similar spot on their forums for each class, and it's been proven to be an exceptional place to learn new types of fun or strong strategies. If this idea pans out, and shows success, you could continue this update to make it champion specific, so mains of each champion can get together on a place other than Reddit.
-
I would personally enjoy having a way to sort out certain types of posts by keyword, so I don't have to see a million posts about "Riot made a bad skin, time to lynch their design team!" The word filter could also assist younger children/parents in blocking out profanity.
-
Different types of "Upvotes/downvotes" these would include "Interesting, Funny, Op, Weak, Rude, etc." you would be able to sort through these options as well to see who's currently at the top of the "funny" posts.
3. Ignore/Friend/Follow Options
-
I have come across some great people on the boards, and we've had incredible conversations. It would be great to have a way to friend a person on the boards, and get a notification (just like now) when they post. This could completely run off the client's friend list, just being accessible through the website.
-
similarly, I have come across some terrible people that I'd rather not see anything else from. Ignore list would improve not only the large amount of toxicity on the boards, but also allow for a more helpful environment in general.
-
Follow would be similar to the friend option, though it wouldn't require acceptance from the other person. I see this being used alot for Riot members (Tantrum would be the first on my list to follow), and the people that post awesome champion concepts.
4. Messaging Options
-
it gets tedious trying to carry on a conversation on the boards with multiple people jumping in. Sometimes you want to take the messages to private and discuss ideas with the person 1 on 1. I think a messaging option (similar to the one Riot uses to tell me my board posts are removed) would solve this issue.
-
This messaging option would likely have to be between friends only, as it would be a breeding ground for scammers/advertisers.
Overall these are my ideas to improve the boards.
