Improving Map Awareness by Turning off Mental Autopilot

A lot of times you hear things like "Look at minimap every time you aren't last hitting a CS in lane" but this isn't one of those posts. I realized a while back that before I started a game I would list to myself my goals for the game: Map Awareness, Counter Harass, and not getting caught out for lack of vision. However, when I finally got into game, someone flipped a switch in my brain, forcing me to play on autopilot and forget to perform my mental checklist. I finally got fed up with it and asked myself how I could fix this problem for the longest time, but eventually I grew out of it.

For those of you with the same problem who want to manually force yourself to override your brain's protocol of ignoring every lane I suggest changing your announcer settings to Korean. This way, instead of the "Double Kill" sound ringing through one ear and out the other you can generally realize when you should look at other lanes to determine how to react.

Note: This is just a quick fix on getting you to critically think during games! I still feel that it would be to your benefit if you tried to look at minimap while you're not CSing to tell if you're in a good enough position to trade/harass/all-in, etc!

That's definitely an unique trick. I could see it helping someone who has ADD or ADHD, such as my duo partner who has no awareness in the game whatsoever.

But as for me, I'm constantly aware (Totally not being prestigious. I just really pay attention) and as someone who majorly plays Jungle and Support roles, you're entire time as those roles are making you to be "aware." I feel like those two roles people in League don't really play or give a good chance to get "good" at. It really helps. As a support you're watching the minimap to see the pathing of other team and you usually can guess where to ward efficiently. As a jungler, you are a global babysitter and you have to help all lanes.

I think people should just "get in the game." Don't a drone or dizzy. Or play during the day! Lack of sleep is not going to be a good game.

Is there anything for mild ocd? LOL i think I have it. Like when I see 2 smite charges, I HAVE to use one. I always feel like its going to waste and i just smite something, and putting me at risk. Same thing with trinkets. (especially the blue one) if its up, I feel inclined to use it

The message this conveys is EXACTLY what I keep telling people. Auto piloting is a bad way to play and you definitely enjoy it less when you do something awesome too.

That's an interesting and unique way to trick your brain into figuring out what just happened.
