Why Roaming Supports will *Never* Work in Current Bot Lane Meta

The popular hard engage supports will faceroll your ADC as soon as you step out of lane, preventing them to do what they do best: farm.

  • Leona

yeah you're supposed to position safely when your support roams... as in far back enough that you can't get engaged on.

You don't roam post-6 on Leona/Blitzcrank (or any other supports with CC)?

(What's wrong with you?)

Never work is putting it a bit strongly, don't you think? In a draft pick format, a roaming support could be counterpicked against a support that lacks hard engage. Alternatively, if they buff Urgot like I hear they will, he might have what it takes to hold a lane that's 1v2 half the time.

But I agree, a traditional ADC going 1v2 or any 1v2 where the 2 includes Blitz seems like a recipe for sadness.

Wait, what? Watch some LCS. Roaming supports have been instrumental (pun intended) in setting up kills all over the map, consistently. Yes, they might not be the strongest things in solo queue, with a less competent ADC, but in team 5v5, they're very powerful.

I don't know why so many ADCs have trouble freezing the lane or farming under tower, and using their item 3340 to avoid being ganked.

Further, a lot of ADCs have moves that allow them to farm from a distance (Caitlyn's Q... also her basic attacks, Varus's Q, Ashe's Volley, MF's Q or E)

A good enough support will get you fed early enough to the point where they can just roam after you drop the tower and leave you to collect double kills in your 2v1 lane.

in soloQ and low elo that may be, but with decent coordination, roaming supports are pretty strong, especially in a lane-swap scenario. Roaming support is actually the current go-to in eu-lcs, hence that focus on annie.

Supports are supposed to support the team, not be a babysitter 24/7.

Yeah, when Bard comes out he'll go bot lane with you during the laning phase, but just like the jungler... other lanes can use their help.

They are already in the meta.

Leona currently roams a fuckton, as does Alistar, and blitzcrank, and thresh.... oh wait

Yandere Carry3/7/2015, 1:02:10 AM1 votes

those aren't the most popular supports atm tho

Thats why Bard doesn't roam all the time since his chimes last for 10 minutes. He isn't really as roaming as you would think, more of just that being how he powers up in the game. Its like farming your Q as Nasus. You are gonna do it, but majority of the time you will need to help the team.

By the way, I just naturally assumed the upcoming roaming support champion is who you were referring to.

Raxicor3/7/2015, 5:07:06 AM1 votes

Bard doesn't need to leave lane for long at all. His chimes tend to spawn right next to lane anyway; in river and near the buff areas. He even gets movement speed so...I don't see what the problem is?

Heimerdinger bot anyone?

SmknWdl3/7/2015, 1:21:44 AM1 votes

Actually I've toyed around with the idea of a roaming support leona... like run mid and gank then go back bot. I've never actaully tried it but I mean it seems like a decent idea.
