Any tips for carrying as support?

When I play ranked, I often have to play support. I enjoy support so I don't really mind. For the times I play support, I'd like to learn a few tips on how to carry from position. I know the basic things, keep wards on the map, protect carries and such, but I'd like to improve my ability to carry as support. Any tips?

The best way to carry as a support is to get your ADC fed. If your ADC is too stupid or unskilled to get fed, then roam mid and try to get them fed.

If you want to carry yourself, you need to get a high damage or high CC support. That way you can build damage or tanky and make things difficult for the other team.

The biggest thing to remember is that you don't need to get kills to carry. Landing an ult or ability at the right time during a teamfight that leads to an Ace and objectives taken is worth 10 kills.

Ward, engage, roam, zone, peel.

Take champs that can win lane and have teamfight prescence for example Sona, she wrecks most lanes and her WER are nice in fights. In lane u have to dominate and win the lane for your ad. If you're ahead, roam mid. In fights, your role will differ each game, but find out how your champ works in teamfights and dictate the fight. That's what supports do they dictate fights. So basically you see their team, your team, you decide what your priorities are "ok my j4 is the engage, so what do I do, I get talisman to speed him up...ok they have akali, so ill stick next to my adc and save my cc for akali...ok they don't have any assassin, I can use my cc to engage or do this or that..." etc etc basically dictate fights

Basically what Lugg said. If ADC is incapable of winning the game for your team, roam and help someone who can. Watch your mini map and call MIAs as you see them. Mid/late game you are dependent on others to survive. Be where the largest grouping of your allies is and don't be the one who tries to shove a minion wave by yourself. Ping it and tell someone else to do it. It will be a better use of their time to get farm and exp and a better use of your time to be with the largest grouping of your allies. Formulate a strategy or an objective for your team. "Dragon comes up in 2 minutes. I am going to go ward now. Mr. Jungler stay bot lane/mid lane. Mid shove your lane and ward the side bush. ADC play safe and don't die." Stuff like that.

I'd say don't support, but if you really like maining support play either a really tanky duelist like volibear or a high damage nuker like annie

a) Ward. When in lane, ward the river and tribush. Ward anywhere ganks can come from. Always have 3 + 1 ward at all times. When in defense mode, ward our jg to prevent ganks. When on the offensive, ward their jg so that you can catch them off guard. The moment a team fight is about to break out, ward the surrounding area so that you can see their assassins ready to pounce on your carries, and ward right at the fight so that your top lane can tp into the fight. When baroning, ward so that you can see the enemy coming a mile away and are not caught off guard....similarly with dragon. Oh and always tell your team to upgrade their trinkets. Remind them it costs only 250 gold. Let them know that its not a BF that requires lots of saving up to achieve. If even one or two more people can upgrade, it will help your team have much better vision

b) At low elo, i have noticed that an aggressive sp is better than a defensive sp. Bot lane laning phase is determined by the supports, not the adc. Poke, push, deny, that's all your job. Experiment with aggressive supports, and try to poke their carries rather than their sp (did you know, the second highest diamond sp win rate in NA right now is brand.....he can easy zone and harass the enemy adc)

c) when you are with your adc and you are trying to push, always keep one ward with you at all times, so that if you push too deep in, you can ward the surroundings to catch mia enemies from pouncing on your adc

d) Call mias. Very important...not necessary but it helps a LOT and prevents your team mates from raging, which as we know can quickly escalate into their gameplay going whack very fast. If you don't see the enemy blitz sp mia in lane, call it. If laning phase is over, yet you still can't locate the enemy adc/sp and your mid is over extending....call it. Similarly, keep checking the mini map every 10 secs. If you see the enemy jg or top lane moving about to gank mid, send warning pings. Anything and everything you can do to help will be grateful. Similarly keep pinging and letting your team know about going after objectives. Tell them that you should NOT be relaxing when your team is leading in tower takedowns and enemy kills...and that you should continue to push your objectives. Ping towers that can be taken down. If your team aces the enemy team, and its easy to take down their tower, LET THEM KNOW, PING, AND INFORM THEM THAT THE TOWER SHOULD BE TAKEN DOWN if its a better preference to taking down baron. What good is a baron if after you get it, you are once again on the backfoot and can't do anything with it (this is situational , sometimes getting a baron can help with deep pushes or finishing the game)?

e) Damage equipment vs Utility equipment. Generally utility equipment including cc generating equipment is generally preferred unless your team composition specifically requires you to have full damage. If you see the enemy having a yasuo or yi, and your top lane is mana less and is building half tank/bruiser, get a frozen heart. Don't think that it doesn't go well with your kit....you NEED it. Get crucible so that you can have one extra protection for your adc

f) Aoe/cc in team fights. Your job is to protect your adc/carry. Unless you are a champ whose major cc/aoe is required to initiate team fights, save it for when the enemy pounces on your adc. Do everything you can in team fights to save your adc, including sacrificing yourself sometimes if required.

g) Save yourself where possible. If your adc is stupidly entering the enemy jungle, and their entire team is MIA and you have a hunch they are all there...warn your adc back, but dont necessarily stroll in with him unless you are confident you can save him from all the mia enemies. Whether it be in laning phase or post laning phase, if you dying isn't really going to accomplish anything, don't die. If your adc is about to get caught, and there is no way you going back to save his ass is going to result in in him getting away, don't go in and give them two free kills

I think that covers the majority of what you should do..... :P

DST.

Depending on your support, either catch people out for your team or protect yours. Invest in the person most likely to carry after you're done with the laning phase. Help your entire team out. Roam. Sometimes your adc just needs farm instead of kills, so drop a few wards and help that top laner kill that feeding Riven or something.

You can carry with janna/lulu/nami and any no damage support by controlling team fights with your abilities and item actives....there is one condition for it to happen. You need your team to group up....forget damage. Know your team abilities, the opponent abilities, build accordingly and win 1 or 2 team fight that will get you to the nexus. If you can't get your team to group up, you can't do shit. Damage is nothing without utility and cc. See yourself as the mastermind of the team.... you will know when you are the one who carried even though your team won't... even though you might get some rare "godlike janna/nami/alistar/lulu) comment sometimes....The cc machines is where it'S at.

And those who say that you have to build damage to carry are the one who mains Big dps champions and don't have the support mindsett...and won't use youre potiential to set them up for kills....

Best assassins are the ones who "sees" the team cc.
