After some research and suggestions from others, I've narrowed my options down to two champions. I usually like to play a carrying assassin, so who do you think I should get that would fit that type of playstyle? Basically, I want to deal as much damage to enemies, potentially killing them most of the time.
UPDATE: Who would be better for me train with in the long run? I'm only level 7 right now, so who would I get the best out of by the time I hit level 30?
I would recommend picking up Zed rather than Katarina because Katarina's strong point is teamfights whereas zed's is 1v1s/skirmishes. Being level 7, there are probably not a lot of teamfights going on.
If you want to do more aoe damage and are better at team fighting, play kat. If you want to be more of a lone wolf play zed as he can split push and has more mobility and escapes than kat does.
Sounds like to me Kat would be the best for you
If you want AoE damage in a teamfight, don't unlock Zed. Yeah, he has a little AoE but if your enemy is letting you get that close to multiple people then you've probably already won the fight.
Katarina has 3 AoE abilities, and boy do they chunk people. This champion is easily capable of 1v5 or just any teamfighting and has a really nice 100-0, as well as no mana costs, but as you get into higher skill levels, people will CC you more and you can't really do anything about it.
If you want to 100-0 a single target with as high success rate as possible, pick Zed. Between a slow (or two, depending on the item build) and 2 gapclosers, even if they run from you you're pretty good at chasing. However, Zed late game is often a one trick pony: after his initial ult nuke, he's basically a free kill if he is cced for like 2 seconds.
That being said, if you want to repeatedly nuke things every 55 seconds or so, I'd recommend Talon totally not because I main him. He roams like Zed and Katarina, has a ridiculous 100-0 if he gets his full combo out, a good ability kit for escaping, a point and click gapcloser thqt can teleport you to the enemy ADC from out of nowhere, as well as a slow and a movement speed boost, nd about as much AoE as a Twitch ult with a Runaans (read: a lot.) He also has a really great escape (R to win boys) and is infurirating to gank when he has his ult, which I have no problem clearing CS with late game if there's minions in my base due to its near nonexistent CD. However, Talon DOES use mana, and boy does he use a lot of it. Everyone experiences the horrible feeling of being out of mana and crying at your turret as you get rekt by poke at at least one point while playing him.
Also, Zed and Katarina are ridiculously popular mid laners, and Talon can lane against them both, actually being one of the few counters to Zed (ult when Zed ults, he can't damage you while he can't see you). +1. And Katarinas have a tendency to stand completely still which is Talon's favorite.
Of course if you've already ruled him out by all means play one of the others, but you seem to like Katarina and Talon is dsimilar to her in a few ways. (Gee, I wonder why.)
If you are level 7 play kat unless you are really good at video games and have great mechanics. Zed has so much mechanical potential in his kit even riot has said that balancing him is difficult bc if he isn't really strong in top tier game play then 90% of thief player base should not use him bc they won't have the skill and he will be weak for them.
Kat requires less mechanics so you will get all of the strength of her kit a little easier. Essentially zed is cool, but you will be at a disadvantage in terms of his Strength if you don't have the ability to fully use the kit, so go with Kat so you can learn the stuf like when to roam, when to dive, all that stuff. Then if you want to pick up zed you can focus on learning the harder mechanics when you are already good at the rest.
Hard to say which one to pick out of those 2. Zed is great right now. Katarina is just good after her recent nerfs. By the time you hit 30 Zed may end up being nerfed into oblivion or Kat or whatever. My advice is pick the one you would have the most fun with. Don't pay close attention to the meta just yet because it can and will change.
