Should I Start Ranked Now?

Hello, I've been playing this game for over a year now and I know lots of things about LoL. I know how each champion works and whther they're AP or AD. I know how to build my champions and how to lane without feeding and getting kills if possible, I know how to harass etc. I've heard lots of stories about ranked games, that they're bad and people flame a lot and there are more trolls there than in normals. So I've been iffy whether to start ranked or not since I'm worried I might become Bronze 5 or 4 and never get out again or just keep on being trolled etc.

I would like to know if I should start ranked any time soon as I think I'm ready to go in, but I'm too nervous as in whether to start it in case I'm not actually ready and drop down to a low elo. Are there any tips that could help me? Anything I need to know about ranked before I start? I think it's high time I start ranked because everyone is saying I should start it and I've had some people ask if I'm a smurf (which I'm not).

"Should I Start Ranked Now? " I don't know about doing it now, having that as the question here. Tahm Kench is new and Devourer can throw things into Crazy at the moment. But it's whatever; if that is something to consider or not is up to you.

To the main topic: I believe you have been given some misleading notions about what Ranked is. Ranked is a mode where your wins and losses are recorded and given an LP number that raises and falls so that a player can track their own progress with a goal of improving their own play. That's really all, it's not the end game of League of Legends or anything like that. It's just a different queue of the same game on the same map that is (intended to be) a pseudo-competition environment. Go ahead and play ranked if you want to or go ahead and don't; the majority of players in League don't.

"I've heard lots of stories about ranked games, that they're bad and people flame a lot and there are more trolls there than in normals....or just keep on being trolled etc." That's true to some extent. Being a queue that is supposed to simulate competition and where "your losses matter", people get more stressed and flaming happens more. I can tell you that all of my experiences with "top laner feeds 3 kills and ragequits" have happened in Ranked. And as you can see from these boards, there's no shortage of people very eager to tell you about their trolled game.

"I'm worried I might become Bronze 5 or 4 and never get out again" Don't be. Like I was writing above, Ranked Queue is like a High Score board on an arcade cabinet. Your wins give you points and you try climb up it. A person shouldn't play out of worry that the won't get one of the top scores in Donkey Kong or Time Crisis; people can still enjoy it. There's nothing wrong with being Bronze. The majority of people who play League don't play ranked, and of the ones who do, the vast majority of those players are Bronze & Silver. There's nothing wrong with having normal play at a game you enjoy.

"and never get out" And let me tell you something about those "You can never get out of Bronze" ELO hell guys. They always blame and bash their teammates saying it's their teammates fault they keep losing but if you look at their play, their matches, you can see that's not the case. They blame the all the feeders on their team for the loss, but their teammates didn't make them take AD masteries on Vladimir.

Yeah I think you should go ahead and try it. Even if you get into low bronze(which considering how long you've played is unlikely) I think that in, and of itself isn't a bad thing if you're willing to learn from it. I get put in b5 with 0 mmr last season (b4 the season before) and I completely deserved it at the time. B5 does have a lot of people doing really silly things, it's a little crazy, but that helped me to wake up and push myself to get better. So I learned more about strategy and worked on my mechanics, and then carried my way out of bronze that season. And really? even with all the insanity of low bronze I actually had a lot of fun carrying because bronze is so random, you can just run around and kill people.

There will be people who troll and do stupid stuff. I haven't noticed it to be crazy bad though. Just focus on your own play, and staying positive. If you lose a game, focus on how you could have been more reliable towards carrying your team. And good luck, I hope you place well and enjoy the challenge of ranked!

Ok heres the deal. Alot of people with only 80-100 wins think 'oh hey im lvl 30 im ready'. Well thats just not true. I personally dont recommend ranking untill you have 300-500 normal game wins. Its along wait, but you can either start now and may or may not have to get out of bronze. But despite what 99.999% bronze/silver players think, if you actually as good as you say you are there should be no reason you are being held back by your teamates. Best bet is to look up some guides and tips for ranked before starting.

Honestly i learned more in ranked than i ever did in normals. Every game is a learning experience. Last season i placed bronze 1 ( 4/6 in placements) and by the end of the season i was gold. This season i placed silver 2 fell to silver 4 and over the corse of 120 or so games i finally carried MYSELF out of ilver and into gold and realized that the previous season i simply got lucky with my teams. Now that i am in gold ibam sure it will be a couple hundred more games before im gold 1 or plat 5. Simply put you will get better over time with the roght mentality and if your winrate is above 50% you will climb elo slowly but surely.

Tl;dr start ranked and never stop
