Should I buy a sightstone and gold income item if my support doesn't?

Okay, I get it. I'm low elo and in Bronze because I'm bad. (Yay, self-esteem! :D) Just scroll down for the question, as the intro's very long. : /

Today, my brother told me to try duo queuing with him because he claims that he is in "Elo Hell". Honestly, I don't think it exists, because if you win enough, you'll climb out of it. ^^

So we queue together, and we lose our first and second ranked game. We really didn't mind because we actually tried our best, and our best wasn't enough to win.

On my third game, my brother and I say "fill" in the lobby, like usual. No words were spoken for lanes except mid and top. So, my brother went jungle, and I went adc as Tristana because I was somewhat bored with supporting all the time. The last person on our team called Fiddlesticks support.

Honestly, that's cool. ^^ I've never seen a Fiddlesticks support before, and I hoped to win with one.

Laning phase starts, and my Fiddlesticks pings on the enemy team's adc a lot, telling me to focus on them. I get it, but is five pings in a row necessary? : / So, since I was Tristana, I was harassing the enemy adc with my splash damage after I cs a minion. However, sometimes I would fail at cs'ing/harassing because: 1.) I suck. I do not cs well in general, and 2.) My Fiddlesticks would (I thought accidentally...) take the cs instead.

A few minutes after laning phase, my Fiddlesticks complains that he cannot farm because I kept taking his cs. Curious, as I main support, I looked at his build to see no gold income items and no sightstone. Since I was very behind in gold, I told my brother to upgrade his warding totem. Everyone else on my team kinda yelled (by yell, I mean... : / ) at the Fiddlesticks because:

  • he wasn't supposed to farm,
  • was supposed to ward, and
  • was supposed to "support" the team

Then he started feeding by jumping into a 1v5 and whatnot (I don't think he even meant to feed either, and that he was trying to kill them...)

Should I buy a sightstone and gold income item if my support doesn't? I feel like I could be able to provide better vision, and my gold income item would probably speed up the process of gaining gold and then I could probably sell the gold income item for an actual adc build.

Buying wards, however, is not a bad idea. Even as the adc.

Short answer: No. That is to both sightstone and gold income item.

I recommend upgrading your yellow trinket into the yellow upgrade. It functions as a mini-sightstone and is a great buy if ur support doesn't have sightstone OR theres a lack of vision on the map. Before that, if you really need the vision, then buy 1-2 green wards on each recall depending on how much vision you need.

EDIT: Answer to your question is do NOT buy the sightstone or the gold income item.

If you're playing a relatively tanky champ, especially in the jungle, sightstone can be okay. If you're rolling in gold as the ADC, sure, but normally you're better off building damage.

Gold income items are only worth it if you're not last-hitting, or if you want to run a lane with double relic shield (which would typically be a double bruiser or bruiser+support lane, not ADC+support).

if your support refuses to build sightstone then upgrade your yellow trinket at level 9 instead of getting the blue trinket and that should be good enough.

don't bother with gold generating item if you are an ADC

As adc you should be able to out last hit fiddle

As an ADC? No. However everyone should upgrade their trinkets at level 9. It's just super strong.

Short answer: No Longer answer: As a carry, its your job to try and get as much cs as possible to get that much needed gold for your items. Even if you have a bad support, you should still endeavor to last hit as much as possible, something which inherantly gets easier as you get items and damage. Pick up an odd ward or a pink if you can, make whatever investments you need to farm safely, at lv9 you can upgrade your Stealth Totem to have greater vision options, or even go Farsight orb so you can plant wards in dangerous areas. Basically, you should be trying to get as much gold as possible for your items. Adcs have supports because we need little income to do our jobs well, whereas they need a lot to matter. That said, most supports don't actually have good wave clear, so stealing last hits from them should be a breeze unless they're willing to go oom.
