I've tried googling on how to use channeled abilities... nothing came up.

Hey, this is CocoCookieDough, with a, "JUST PRACTICE IT" question. ;-; I really don't know "how" to practice channeled abilities, mostly because I don't understand how they work. In the end, I have many champions that I was recommended to play with, bought, and now they're sitting in my champion pool, untouched, other than randomly appearing in ARAM.

Examples: (The ones in caps are the ones I really choose not to play at all.) FIDDLESTICKS (everything is weird about him. o3o) Janna (ult) Katarina (ult) MISS FORTUNE (ult) NUNU (ult)

I think the reason why I don't really like their abilities, and therefore cannot use it (or to their full potential... -uses it for 1 second-), is because:

  • I hate standing still.
  • I hate not auto-attacking.
  • I hate damage/heal that doesn't instantly happen.

So, most of the time, I'd ulti, and accidentally move... Or use the ult for different reasons. (Janna's ONLY for knockback) Or for 0.5 seconds - 1 second. (Katarina until I kill someone, probably Janna for knockback again.)

I'd like to know: 1.) When to know to use the entire ult, and not part of it? 2.) How the heck can you even position yourself for your channel (other than Katarina) other than flashing in? 3.) When to stop channeling in general?

I'll probably think up more questions if I think about it.

Thank you for reading this, guys. ^^

you use go wait in a bush with fidle dicks ult and channel it straight into the teamfight and than once he teleports in you pop zonyas

with nunu it is best to have team fights in the jungle so then the enemy team has a harder time escaping it if you have to fight in lane try to walk into the middle of the fight and just press r and stay there with janna if you want to get into the enemy team without flashing knock them up with a q and run in before they can hit the ground

I can comment on Fiddlesticks and Nunu, as I've played with them a fair bit, and can comment on channeling their abilities.

With Fiddlesticks' ultimate, you generally need to make sure that you channel the entire ultimate. There's no benefit to not fully channeling his ult, so you need to make sure you get the whole thing off.

Positioning for it is the tricky part. You need to make sure you position your ultimate in a position where you can ult into the enemy team without risk of being interrupted. Try to always channel at a range where you can reach the enemy team, or are at least in a position to get into the enemy team after channeling.

Fiddlesticks' Drain is a little bit different because it happens over a duration. His Drain is his primary source of damage, and ideally, you want to channel it for its full duration.

I would say that there is no distinct way to know when to use the entire Drain or not to use the entire Drain, just adapt to the situation, and try and channel it as long as possible, as long as it is safe. What is safe? That is going to change with the games you play.

With Nunu's ultimate, you just need to get as close to the enemy team as possible without completely getting away from your team, and just start channeling. Don't worry about trying to auto attack or casting spells, as your auto attacks are not too useful, one of your spells isn't useful in fights, and another of your spells I believe can be casted during your ult's channel.

To be honest, the best way to practice is to be patient enough to let the channel go through, and have the balls enough to let yourself channel it.

1.) When to know to use the entire ult, and not part of it? You generally go for a full channel on something like kat/nunu/galio whenever you can, you only want to stop your channel if: 1 The enemy is already out of range, when someone walks out of your nunu ult, its best to try to cancel it right before they leave the circle so you can still get your damage off. For a champ like kat where you cannot see the direct range this is a bit harder, but generally when you notice you are not doing damage anymore it is smart to stop the channel.

2 You are going to die and have means to escape, when you are playing nunu and usually play a 'tank- focus me role' its not that applayable, but when you are playing kat and you ulted into great danger its better to jump out to survive and then deal damage again later with your other skills. because the price of death is a lot higher than the price of not having the full damage of your channeled ult.

2.) How the heck can you even position yourself for your channel (other than Katarina) other than flashing in? Most champions will have some mobility added to their kit to help this, like for kat you can shunpo in, and for fiddlesticks your ultimate teleports you after channeling and then you can walk around freely after that.

for champs like nunu you are usually a big tank and can do a couple things: -Wait for the enemy engagement and use your ult to make a safe zone for your carries -Hide in brushes for suprise tactics -Just walk in during a teamfight and ult when you can catch multiple people

3.) When to stop channeling in general? Handled that in point #1

Channeling with Fiddlesticks is the easiest and the hardest. He's usually played in the jungle so you want to make sure you do it from a unwarded bush. R on top of the opponent, immediately throw down your fear ability, then drain them until you can't anymore. If that doesn't kill them, throw out your bouncing crows of death. I also suggest always build zhonya's on him so that you can protect yourself if you ult really far into the enemies.

Janna's ult is a really good disengage/heal. If you are disengaging you want to at least wait for the opponents to get flung back to max range before canceling. If you are healing don't click anything until after the green effects of the ult disappear. Save those allies!

I don't play Miss Fortune so...uh...shoot them from far away?

Nunu's is tricky. Its another that it really strong from the bush. The opponents can't see it happening besides them being slowed and there being a snowflake pattern under their feet. He, however, is likely to get interupted because it does a ton of damage with some AP.
