Your Support can technically go without a Sightstone, but only if he continually supplements his vision with regular wards and upgraded trinket instead.
Strat1 votestbh map awareness is far more powerful than the act of warding alone. There's no point wasting your wards if you just saw the enemy jungler on the other side of the map. Little point warding if you're pushed to your tower while you're full HP. No point warding when you're fed enough that you can 1v2 or you're confident you can escape any situation without burning summoner spells.
That said, outside of situations like the ones I listed, warding is important and can deny the enemy a lot of gold (and earn you gold as you won't lose minion gold when killed/sent back to base by a gank).

Strat1 votesNo quite the opposite. My point was that you don't need vision as much if the ENEMY is pushing deep (assuming you're high health). If you're lower health you should ward to stop the enemy jungler from diving you.

Can't tell you how many shutdowns, objective steals, and game-changing picks my team has been able to get thanks to a ward I put down, even though I wasn't personally there to help them.
Only Play Darius1 voteswards are the greatest thing invented, and with the new trinket you have zero reason to not be warding at level 9. It's literally a sightstone that doesn't take up an item slot.
