Stop building attack speed Gnar, his greatest attribute is survivability when in Mega, so build things like Spirit Visage, Black Cleaver, etc...

I see alot of people get BoTRK and then build tanky.
one building tanky on gnar is great but not as great as u think. simply because hes never a full blown tank all the time. so your kinda forced to build for two diffrent champs cause if u build for only one form the other is ganna lack. and attack speed lets mini gnar do alot of damage with his w.
It really depends on what elo your playing at and if your jungler is smart. If he knows that hes building damage u gank gnar and snow ball. If he builds tank he is gonna be harder to kill and still put down decent damage.
the optimal build for gnar is usually bortk tank item then triforce then full tank items from there at least from what i see that works
