What do I do as support if my ADC is bad?

I frequently find myself in Ranked games where my support mechanics can be just fine, but my ADC is just so bad that it drags literally the entire team down come mid game. What do I do if I'm in a situation where my ADC is constantly missing CS, and incapable of dodging hooks/poke? Detailed as possible please. I generally support with Sona and Nami

If your adc is bad, you pretty much just wanna try to support your mid laner come the midgame. That's when they're at their strongest, so if you focus your efforts on protecting and setting up kills for them, your team has a much better chance at winning. Your adc could be 1/6/1 and it wouldn't matter because your mid laner is doing all the heavy lifting.

Generaly you would roam on that moment. But that's a little bit more difficult with Sona & Nami. Deep wards is also pretty risky because your pretty squishy in the early game. I suggest you try to build more AP with items like item 3060 & item 3050 & item 3504

Basically what you want to do is salvage the lane as much as possible and make as much damage control as possible: Sona and Nami, being poke sustain support with some CC to peel, are pretty good at this. I know a lot of people here probably told you to throw the ADC under the bus and start roaming. However, not only are Nami and Sona not very good at this, but doing it will often cause toxicity, and that toxicity can do a lot of damage to your team.

Nami

Don't bother with trying to create opportunities for him or poking, save your heal and CC for when he gets caught; overall Nami is a support who is very strong in team fights and who benefits the whole team with ease, so focus your attention on your other teammates if he's still helpless when team fights come

Sona

Depends a lot on their picks, but in many situations you can successfully poke enemies with little to no cooperation from your ADC. If you are able to do so, it will diminish their tendency to go ham on him. KEEP MAXING Q. If you switch to maxing W you will likely not be able to keep him alive in lane anyway, and you will become as useless as him. Mostly keep Crescendo to get him out of trouble.

  • Try your best to save him but if Impossible just dump him, better to give one kill than two.
  • If is one of those, I'm going to shave the lane no matter what, type of adc roam mid and grab assists, you really won't do much under turret anyway.
  • Run mana items and just heal whatever poke they do, grab early mana regen item and spam your heal, it won't be ideal but it will help him not to fall so much behind due to being constantly pushed out of lane
  • Build damage (my less favorite) and try to poke them out of lane as well, this one is in my opinion the one that works the less thou.

During mid game if you see positioning is poor and/or he is too fall behind, start following a different carry and start making plays for them and consider your adc as a secondary dps and not the primary

Twin Shadows on Nami is great for when your ADC is complete crap. The AP helps the heals, it comes with CDR and also bonus movement speed so as to escape pursuers. And the active is super effective for when the enemy tries to dive you. Makes landing bubbles super easy too. Buy this as opposed to ardent censer when your ADC is complete crap.

I just sit back and don't die. Not worth giving doubles just cuz of baddies that play ranked when they have no business playing ranked.

The previous comments were on par- build utility to help the team. Who is their most fed? Build a Locket or other defensive item after your stone and mana item, keep your red buff area pinked because chances are, your own tri bush will be cleared without interference. Whatever you do, don't save the day... I do that more often than I should, so if you look at my stats? I suck in the kda dept :/

take the cs they miss by simply timing ur autoattacks appropriately for the last hits. (trust me, theres obvious times when ur adc will actually miss cs.) if your adc gets hooked/poke, don't suicide with them. Always do your best to return the dmg to the enemy ADC. Thats your job as the support for laning phase when ur trading : to chunk the enemy ADC as much as you can.

Don't play Sona and Nami, play Thresh/Blitz/Nautilus and roam around the map and make plays. You don't have to stay bot

Personally, I tend to play supps that can get my adc out when they inevitably get themselves in trouble. I like using thresh soraka and blitz for this purpose. Thresh u can still be aggressive, but also play very defensive and protective using my lantern and hook/flay to peel. Soraka I can heal and silence to keep my adc safe, and a good self heal/poke to keep urself safe or if you want to play aggressive. Also, u can use the speedboost from passive to get urself out if you heal strategically. Blitz can be super aggressive of course with his kit, and u can use ur silence and knockup to peel and if need be pull to get their adc away from urs. Also, you of course can use ur speed boost to get urself out.

don't play squishy supports ?

Listen to me. Ask him if he wants you to leave the lane, and if he does, LEAVE THE FUCKING LANE. Like please.

If he doesn't, then . . . build damage?

Sona has decent AP scalings to be a mage. Stack AP if you really don't see any hope for your ADC. But don't forsake Sighstone, you're still a support to your team, the only difference is you've got Abyssal Sceptre to help you APC deal more damage and generally more AP for your heals and shields.

I don't see a lot of Namis go straight AP so I'm not sure she does as much damage as AP Sona.

It's really up to the ADC. You can tell them to keep farming but don't overextend but they have no obligation to follow your orders.
