Mechanical Questions

Hey guys :) I have a mechanical question aimed at improving my gameplay. I could test this out myself but if you guys already know the answer it would be quite a bit easier. I'm sure I will have more questions to add and feel free to add your own and I'll do my best to answer them.

  1. Does attack speed increase the time it takes to complete one basic attack? This question is purely for last hitting purposes only. If a minion has 50 hp, sometimes I go up to smack them and my auto-attack animation doesn't complete (but the animation still goes off) before the minion dies; making me miss out on the minion gold. If I had attack speed would the animation take a shorter time to complete? Or does attack speed only benefit consecutive attacks?

The animation is shorter. It is very small, basically attack speed is the speed of a single attack animation, example 1.5 AS means you can complete an attack and a half in a time frame (not sure if it is 1second or not) It is less noticeable in a single attack but it is there.

Sadly there is a rather annoying bug involving AA (auto attacks) that basically shows the attack flying, then because you clicked away it cancelling mid flight. This may be what you are experiencing.

As a general less confusing summary, AS improves the speed of the attack animation, therefore giving you more attacks in an allotted time than the base AS. To see this in a rather extreme case compare any ADC AS with and without item 3085 . Each Individual attack comes much faster (70% faster in fact).

Hope this helps

different champions have different attack animations. For example, Ahri has a very crisp AA animation, meaning the damage is dealt near the beginning of the attack animation. Poppy on the other hand has a very sluggish AA animation where the damage is dealt almost at the very end of the animation. Build AS very slightly improves an individual attack's total speed (as in the time after clicking that the damage is dealt), but is only really noticeable for consecutive attacks.

There is a hidden variable called attack delay that helps set a champions base attack speed.

The attack delay is used to calculate to how much time it takes from command issued until damage is applied. The attack speed is how many attacks per second a champion can get off.
