4.19 Ryze Changes
So in Patch 4.19 Ryze's base Q damage got nerfed at all levels. From 60/85/110/135/160 to 40/60/80/100/120. I've been playing Leauge for about a year now, the first champion I picked was Ryze and I have been maining him since and well; here are my two cents on the recent change.
I think this makes Ryze too weak mid-lane. I know meta says Ryze is a top champion now and that's also usually where I take him.
However, If I ever had a favourable match-up I would always take him Mid though. Now that's hardly ever an option. There's people like Fizz, who Ryze countered wonderfully but now gets wrecked by before he buys items. Then there are champions who Ryze went even with who now out damage him far too much... before he has items. I do think the nerfs were valid for top-lane, but I think that Ryze should get some extra base magic-resistance to compensate. Another suggestion would be to leave his base damage alone and nerf some of his base armor instead.
Thoughts?
which gives him DAMAGE makes him a natural counter to the melee top lane AD meta (every other champ in the game buys this solely for its ARMOR where it is already $$ efficient). The good MR items (needed versus mid laners) do not have massive pools of mana (if any) which makes them mediocre buys for Ryze.
