Anyone help me out what runes to fill for Support role?

BeatzBoyFTW··1 votes·29,237 views

Figure during the Flash Sales time around January 21st, best I would purchase a rune page and set my self a proper rune page for support roles, instead of going support with the AP runes. Can anyone list me out what runes do you usually place for a support?

My mains I can say would be Braum, Soraka, Thresh & Zilean.

I like to check out Probuilds to see what the pros are building on my favorite champs :) You can click the players to see more details and their runes setup if you scroll down http://www.probuilds.net/champions/Braum

Phreak did a pretty handy post on Runes, I'd check it out if I were you! http://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/2s5snf/cheat_sheet_for_rune_pages_for_the_2015_season_as/

I second the watching of this video. When he did it it really helped with a ton of my runes. He does a really good job of breaking down his decisions with math, something you won't get from probuilds. It's one thing to set up a rune page like the pros, but another to know why you are doing it so you can learn to make your own decisions later or at least know why a pro might have chose their setups on probuilds (which I do still look at).

The tip I liked best about support runes from phreak is that if you are going for a tanky support (braum, thresh, leona) using flat health yellows and Armor quints gives you more health and armor than using flat armor yellows and health quints.

Some of his stuff has had the meta shift a bit though for other roles, I know a lot of pros are taking scaling health yellows over flat in solo lanes for example but if you watch the video he breaks down benefits on one vs the other.

For Thresh, lot of people like to go 15AD for strong poke with his E passive and autos. Zilean is probably better used with AP runes anyways. Though I guess on him and Soraka, you could use utility quints like movement speed quints and magic pen marks. Braum, just use tanky runes. Armor marks, scaling armor seals, flat HP quints, and a mix of flat/scaling mr glyphs or just all scaling mr glyphs.

For a caster support (Soraka, Zilean) I just use my AP page. For a tank support(Braum, Thresh) I like MPen or HPen reds, Scaling Armor Yellows, Scaling MPen Blues, and Movespeed Quints. I'll never forsake my movespeed quints, they always come in handy for clutch save of aggressive facetanking. I use Movespeed quints for all my junglers too, so they're very handy to have.

I'd like to put in a word for Movement Speed Quints on some tank supports that are positioning reliant. Can make a difference on Alistar or Thresh. I also use them on Braum, but he'd probably be better off with Health.

Good point updated my previous post.

I run armor and mana regen runes for my support to survive the heck that is bot lane sometimes. With the nerfs to casters, that +11 mana per level with +15 at level 18 helps so much.

I should try that (I used to run scaling mana regen with flat health regen), I made a page on those lines for Skarner (the Seriously Starved-for-mana Scorpion). Hybrid Penetration marks all the way, though :)

Using probuilds is a good start, I ran with that for some time, But In the end you will find your self building out In your own way and outfitting each champ with there own kit. But as a few pointers for supp, Here is my rune page i use with braum.

http://www.lolking.net/summoner/na/35272952#runes

As you can see I have armor to start and scaling mr and hp. This Is cause no ones ap dmg Is very high at the start of a match so you get more bang for you buck going with scaling mr, And same with hp, I do that cause of things like juggernaut mastery, The more hp you have the more you get, So most games let you hit lvl 18, And with that your fighting at your max hp. I hope this help's.

(Edit not sure If that link brings you to the right rune page, The one Im talking about is Rock Wall.)

Assuming I'm playing a Support-support (as opposed to a Mage-support or Tank-support), I've got a Rune page filled with as much +Gold as possible, with a bit of MP regen and Armor on the side. Financial Support always finishes builds first. :P

What are runes? Is that how I get out of bronze?

Bronze & Silver isn't so much of a difference lol. Don't get cocky.

So does that mean i still don't have to buy runes?

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

Well if you could be patient for another 8 months plus or so while figuring out why you're still in the same elo as me, sure, you don't have to lol.

i have/am about to have the following runes.

Quints--- Gp10, Health, AP, AD, MS Glyphs---MR, AP, CDR Seals---Armor Marks--- AD, Armor pen, Magic Pen, AS

and on most supports i take Gp10, MR, Armor, and either AD or Magic Pen. people also buy armor Marks and armor Quints as well, and that makes good sense especially if their support is AD. Hybrid Pen is also popular but i just run 4-5 Armor pen and 5-4 Magic Pen if you are running a hybrid champ. it's not as efficient but you save on IP.

this updates what runes the high elo players are using and it's how i settled on the runes that i purchased.

I would go with NurseFlan's and Valktoria's suggestions; I usually use probuilds to double check builds and stuff (take things with a grain of salt since pros build situationally; look at their match-ups and stuff to try to understand why they're doing what they're doing, etc.). I just watched Phreak's videos yesterday and they're great. I'm personally getting two rune pages for support with the coming sales (I play Braum, Janna, and Sona primarily):

  • For Braum: Flat Armor Quints, Flat Armor Marks, Flat HP Seals, Flat MR Glyphs
  • Rationale: Braum is a tank, he scales with tank stats. Flat HP Seals and Flat Armor Quints are more efficient than Flat HP Quints and Flat Armor Seals. Flat Armor Marks since he doesn't really use any other marks too well, plus he scales with Armor; same with MR Glyphs.
  • For Janna/Sona: 2 Flat Armor Quints + 1 AP Quint, Magic Pen Marks, Flat HP Seals, 4 Flat MR Glyphs + 5 Flat AP Glyphs
  • Rationale: 2 Flat Armor Quints gives me ~10 armor, similar to what I've been using (flat armor seals). Magic pen since I'm doing magic damage, Flat HP is just useful (flat stats are generally better for duo lanes since scaling runes don't break even until lvl ~6-8/9 depending on the type, and you're not going to get as much experience in duo lanes compared to solo lanes). Basic theme is sacrificing some defense where I can for some AP, especially since Janna and Sona are ranged have some decent sustain tools (which scale with AP) so it isn't as necessary to build as tanky as Braum.

Support runes are generally situational upon the champion and playstyle. I play a lot of thresh this season and i'd say ad marks in general are pretty solid for laning with harassy/brawler supports etc, Braum Thresh Leona Zyra , or u could just go armor, magic pen. For seals, its a pretty standard armor/ health. Glyphs can be preferential. I personally love 6 cdr 3 magic resist, because most supports generally have long lvl 1 cooldowns, therefore starting the game with 10% cdr can mean a lot of cc for that gap between lvl 1 trading and lvl 2 zoning. Quints are either all or a mix of flat Ad, Ap, Armor and sometimes movement speed of course dependent upon the champion. The reason i say sometimes movement speed is because with mobility boots you already have a sufficient amount of speed to rotate to those river or jungle skirmishes. Movement speed is player preference. Gold per level isn't worth it anymore.

ShadowKnight1224

I have two support pages, Tank and AP. For AP, I go flat AP quints, flat magpen marks, flat health seals and scaling AP glyphs. For Tank, I go scaling armour quints, flat AD marks, flat health seals and flat MR glyphs.

I might eventually switch out the AD marks for armour, but they're surprisingly good on Leona and Thresh.
