How to Improve Your Gameplay Through Keybindings!

Welcome to the thread! My name is Nesmith and I'll be helping you improve your gameplay by changing your keybindings.

First, I'd like to point out that any information below is not hacking or cheating or anything, and does not violate any Riot policies whatsoever.

Second, the benefits you will sow from the keybindings below are as follows:

  • Improved kiting through Shift Key mechanics and simplified clicking.
  • Improved awareness with improved camera movement and location.
  • Improved quality of life through the form of simplicity and comfort.

Finally, I'd like to point out these keybindings don't work for everyone, especially if you start off trying it for the first few times. It took me quite awhile to get adjusted to these from the normal game keybindings, but I must say these have changed them for me immensely.

The keybindings are as follows, according to average keybinding settings.

Abilities: Normal Cast → Quick Cast With Indicator + Self Cast

  • Q → Q
  • W → E
  • E → R
  • R → Tab

These will go accordingly with the camera changes and allows you to keep an average feel for the original keybindings. Feel free to fiddle with these to your own comfort zone.

Note: You will need to learn to adapt to Quick Cast With Indicator. Self Cast allows it so you don’t need to click yourself if you need a clutch shield or protection or whatever on yourself.

Abilities: Quick Cast → Quick Cast With Indicator

  • Shift Q → Shift Q
  • Shift W → Shift E
  • Shift E → Shift R
  • Shift R → Shift Tab

Won't make much sense at first, but these will allow your spells to work with the new Shift Key mechanics you'll be working on. For those worried about Sticky Keys being an issue, don't worry - you can click here for information on how to disable it.

Items: Normal Cast → Quick Cast With Indicator + Self Cast

  • 1 → 7
  • 2 → 2
  • 3 → 3
  • 4 → 1
  • 5 → 4
  • 6 → 5
  • 7 → 6

In other words, this makes your trinket go to ‘1’ instead of ‘4’, and now your first item slot will be used as ‘7’. I do this as my personal use, as I prefer my actives be on 2, 3, and 4, sometimes 5, instead of ‘1’. If you prefer you be able to use the ‘1’ key as your first item and ‘4’ as your trinket, or like your current setup, you don’t need to change a thing.

Items: Quick Cast → Quick Cast With Indicator

  • Shift 1 → Shift 7
  • Shift 2 → Shift 2
  • Shift 3 → Shift 3
  • Shift 4 → Shift 1
  • Shift 5 → Shift 4
  • Shift 6 → Shift 5
  • Shift 7 → Shift 6

Same concept as above, but working with the Shift Key mechanic.

Player Movement

  • MB2 → MB2 / Shift MB2
  • Shift MB2 → MB3 / Shift MB1

This is where Shift Key Mechanics come into play. Instead of using Right Click to move and whatever you use for Attack Move, Now you just hold down Shift and Left Click to attack, Right Click to move. It’s that easy! All the other changes to items with ‘Shift’ are just so you can use those abilities and items while in this new mechanic of Shift.

Note: You don’t need to do this, however the majority of this whole keybind setup revolves around the Shift Key mechanic! Whether you do this or not determines whether you use the setup or not!

Camera Control

  • Up (↑)→ W / Shift W
  • Down (↓) → S / Shift S
  • Left (←) → A / Shift A
  • Right (→) → D / Shift D

This will allow you to move the camera freely by using WASD instead of ↑↓←→ or your mouse. The camera will be integrated more later to be more comfortable and simpler to understand, but for now, this is all you will need. Make sure it has Shift so you can use Shift Key mechanics!

Communication

  • G → G / Shift G

Just making sure Shift Key mechanics can ping.

Menus

  • O → O / `

If you don’t know where to find ‘`’, it’s the button next to the ‘1’ key - also has a tilde during Shift. This is just a faster way to connect to your scoreboard. Make sure it’s not hold!

Quick Cast With Indicator

  • Cast the pressed spell upon pressing another spell → checked.

It’s more useful than it sounds during Shift Key mechanics.

Now that we’re done with Keybindings, let’s head over to the ‘Game’ tab of the ‘Esc’ menu.

In that section, you’ll see a few things. Do the following changes:

Mouse Speed → 50. Camera Mouse Speed → 25. Camera Keyboard Speed → 5.

This will allow you to move your mouse at a reactive speed, and allow the camera to move with your mouse at a reasonable speed if you prefer using your mouse, and the keyboard during camera-lock.

Enable Smooth Camera → checked.

This one is bugged - it won’t stay when the game ends and re-starts. You’ll have to check this every game, but eventually you’ll stop and won’t notice it at all. It’ll help you in the early stages of understanding the keybindings.

Camera Lock Mode → Semi-Locked.

Nobody uses this! Why does nobody use this?! It’s perfect for these keybindings. In case you like camera-lock, this will allow you to keep the camera unlocked and simply holding space to keep it on you while being able to move the camera with WASD without hindering the camera-lock. TL;DR - if you like camera-lock, choose Semi-Locked. If you like camera-unlocked, choose Per-Side.

And those are my keybindings! I like to use these because they’re more comfortable to me, and I’ve adapted to them really well. They’ve changed the way I play immensely, and make the game much more intriguing that it would be with otherwise simple camera movement. Let me know what you think in the comments, and remember:

  • I’m not forcing you to do this. If you don’t want to do this, or have tried and don’t like it right away, you don’t need to continue.
  • This doesn’t violate any policies or any conducts of Riot Games.
  • It’s not horrible to share! Feel free to share this with friends if you like it, and especially new players learning the game for the first time.

A lot of it is personal preference.

You forgot to shift "Display Ping" from Ctrl+F to something else. Accidentally wasted Flash a few times at the start of a game trying to display my ping.

Ended up moving it to Ctrl+Z.

I mapped my item slots from 1-6 and moved my trinket slot to T.

I have no idea how you manage to not break your hand with those keybindings.

Change R to Tab and then leave Shift? You need to rearrange your hand on the keyboard every time you want to use ult or shift key.

IMO, if I were doing something like this I'd change W to 2, so if I want to use ult I don't need to move whole hand. WASD is still perfectly usable, even more than with your setup, I bet. Or perhaps instead of W and S for camera, use S and X instead.
