Just hit Diamond, Season 3: Silver AMA

Well after weeks of struggling in plat 1-2 i`ve finally crossed the border into diamond. I started playing the game in season 3 when Zac just got released. I struggled between silver 2-5 for the season.

In Season 4 I learnt a lot more about the game and finally made it into gold. It didnt take long to get outve gold (2-3 weeks) and I made it to plat. When I hit plat I really thought that was as high as i`ll ever go. Then slowly i won more and noticed hey maby I have a shot. I peaked at Plat 2 and finished season 4 at plat 3.

If anyone would like to ask questions on how how I managed to climb or tips to help them climb from a specific elo upwards ask away and i`ll tell you what worked for me.

I am a mid main followed by equally willing to do jungle or ADC. My champion pool is (comparatively to some) very limited in terms of who I can win with in actual ranked games. Maining a few champions really is key.

I was placed in Bronze V at the beginning of Season 5. I'm aiming for PlatIII this season as I have already made it to GoldII. I don't know why, but climbing is just so easy.

My tips for climbing are:

Play roles that are similar to each other or share champion pools. This is like TOP/MID/JUNGLE or ADC/SUPPORT.

Play 1 or 2 champions in 75% of your games. Right now I have 300 games on Nidalee and could take her Top, Mid, and Jungle. This allowed me to master her and let my mechanics carry me when my strategy and ideas faltered.

But my most important tip is:

You need to realize that all ranks are the same. SilverI is shit, and GoldI is shit, and PlatI is shit. Shit is shit, there is no difference. When going from one division to another there is 0 difference in the skills of the players, and as you play you will slowly get better, but you need to maintain the attitude that ranks are just numbers and not skill levels.

Finally, Win Games. That is how you climb. Don't troll. Don't play bad champions. Optimize your champion pool to yourself and the meta so you have the best chance of winning each individual game.

Good Luck on the ladder boys!

What is the #1 thing separating plats from diamonds?

I've heard it was decision speed. I've heard it was decisiveness. But I just don't get it.

I hit plat 1/2 multiple times this season then tilt back down to plat 3/4 off a promo loss. Peaked at plat 1 50 LP. Just can't break the diamond barrier.

I don't really have any specific questions to be honest. I feel like im a solid enough player in any role except jungle but what usually gets me is the dance that happens in mid-late game where neither team seems to want to engage so pretty much nothing happens. I usually end up getting really bored and either putting myself in a bad position trying to poke and getting engaged upon/killed, or leave to farm something and my team gets engaged on/engages themselves and loses. I just don't really know what to do in this sort of situation if im not playing as my teams initiator and running in circles waiting for something to happen is just painful.

Im by no means a pro or anything, and I really do struggle in the jungle (my only real jungler atm is WW and im pretty much irrelevant until I get sated devourer in my games) so I try to avoid that role is possible. My main is Viktor and I really really love playing him, so much so that im inclined to take him top/sup if I get stuck in either of those roles but that typically means sacrificing team cohesion to satisfy my own comfort so I dunno if its a good call, which usually makes me pick someone else and end up performing mediocre at best.

Ive also been finding myself getting tilted lately after I hit about level 20 because im constantly getting into games where the other team either has smurfs/30s in general or just has more of them so my teammates just get steamrolled and its basically a guaranteed loss. Its really killing my drive to continue playing the game because its so aggravating getting pub stomped by people that absolutely blow you away skill wise.

So I guess the TL;DR would be: Im just looking for some general advice on how to improve as a player.
