How do you get out of ELO Hell when you're a support main?

iLuma·3/6/2015, 7:17:56 PM·1 votes·2,267 views

Seriously. I need help. When I get first pick, I'll go mid or jungle and carry. I do awesome work, and put myself on a great win streak. But then I go on a streak of ending up last pick and nobody in Silver/Bronze ever want to play support, so I get stuck with it. Which isn't bad, because I main support. However, I always get stuck with a really, really rude ADC or an AFK Jungle, etc etc.

My friend says start playing Supports who can carry, but it's hard if you have a whole team of squishies and they are relying on you to be the tanky support.

Ugh, help me!

The best tip is to stop believing in "elo hell". If you get trapped in that mindset it will follow you no matter how high you climb.

Duo queue. Doesn't matter how good a support you are if your team doesn't follow up on your plays, so take a friend that will do so.

Play Janna. Master Janna. When I was Bronze V in season 3, Janna took me to Bronze II in a matter of hours. So yeah, even though she's changed a bit since then, she still has the power to help protect and empower your ADC (and other allies), along with help out greatly in team fights with her passive and knock ups/backs.

Janna is amazing, though I can still say a bad ADC can negate all of your efforts to save them.

But if you can rely on you ADC to make at least some effort to save their own skin, then Janna is the best way to ensure that they stay alive. Mass peel, a great shield, a focused slow for anyone that gets too close, and a little extra speed boost for your allies.

Lulu is extremely similar, but more focused on individual targets than Janna is.

I'm actually really good with Janna. Ha. She was one of my first mains when I started playing League. Maybe I'll start using her more.

Karma is a great support for bending the arc. She's got a lot of versatility in terms of lessening the damage from mistakes. Teammates that are out of position can be shielded and sped up at the same time so they can get back into position faster. When the enemy team comes in she's got a decently ranged slow/disincentive to blunt the enemy team's engages. And both can be applied to the entire team when necessary with her ult. Karma isn't flashy, but she makes everyone a little better, and usually that's all you need to transform a failing team into a competing team. Toss on smart ward coverage and you're all set.

Everyone is saying Janna, and she's definitely very strong for protecting. But this man just pushed me from Silver V to Silver III

On target stun.....it's one of the one ones in the game. Succeeding as support means making the best of the worst situations. If Leona or Thresh dives your carry, you stun their carry (You try to not CC the support unless it's soraka or sona because they can be killed easily). The Armor, AP and AD auras are just wonderful.

He reduces Armor while raising yours. He heals, he gets more damage the more armor he has. The burst from his ultimate is pretty nice. And he gets rewarded for leaving to weave autoattack in between your abilities like Riven.

Learn when and who to stun, and that goes a long way.

I was actually in your position last season.. I was placed into bronze 3 got demoted to bronze 4 and such I felt hopeless so i quit ranked for a while. I'm now Diamond 5 this season but I dont main support anymore i found something i like more. When people ask me how do you get out of "Elo hell" I just say Play champions you like, do not just play a champion because theyre op. But a champion most lower elo players dont like or what not is Leona great all in and cc and is very tanky. or go full AP Sona quite a few in challenger and Diamond. Then again play whatever you like! or whatever youre comfortable on. Thats really all I can say. Also be very positive even if you have to suck up like i cant tell you how many times someone was threatening to feed and such try to be a diplomat. A couple times i was like If you guys wanna diss each other do it after the game.

  1. Why would you EVER play Kass supp?

  2. Out of the last 14 games you played that was not a support, your KDA showed that you carried 6 games at most, and out of the 6 games you carried, you won 5.

  3. You only played support 6 times in the last 20 games.

I'd say you worry more about your other lanes than support. It's only 30% of your problem.

You have good games where you went 4/1,. 6/1, 9/4, 8/4 but you also have bad games that went 4/7, 3/7, 2/9, 0/3, 2/7, 4/9

I'd suggest you work on your solo lanes/jungle/adc more so when you get a non support role (70% of the last 20), you can actually carry the majority of them.

If you can win 5 out of 6 games where you do well, why not just optimize the number of games you carry? :)

Play games. Carry them. Even when you win, think about what you could've done better. Even when there is no way you can carry that 0/26/3 top laner, think about what you could've done better. Climbing is about improvement. If you don't improve, you won't climb.

That, and play lots of games. Climbing takes time. You won't get to your actual rank in 100 games. It takes longer than that. So, 12 games in, if you're still in bronze or whatever (too lazy to lolking you), expect to be there some more. It will take time.

Play tanky supports that can carry like Sejuani Leona Blitzcrank Braum Thresh Nautilus . Just climbed into Diamond with Sejuani support.

Also, when you support, you can call the shots and completely control the flow of the game.

Dragon going to be up in 3 mins? Go ward up the jungle around it. Use a pink to set a trap. Tell your team to wait for the enemy team to come facecheck. Murder whoever walks near your death bush with perfect vision control, take objectives. Rinse and repeat until the game is won.

Know what I mean?

Play someone that can keep your ADC alive and also deal enough damage to not be ignored. Lulu is awesome for that. She can poke and she counters a lot the all-in kill bot lanes we see nowadays.. Leona just tower dove you with her E? Well she is now a squirrel and is slowed and the adc is exhausted.

Some "mage-supports" can carry pretty well, such as annie, zyra, vel'koz, brand. Though not "official supports" they bring little utility but lots of extra damage.

play janna and make your ADC invincible. janna makes poor positioning on ADCs irrelevant, so as long as your ADC is auto attacking you'll win every fight.

make sure you build actual support items like Aegis and Mikaels and use your Mikaels active properly. Dont try making flashy plays with your ult, just sit outside of enemy range and protect your ADC.
