When ganking bot lane, is it better to target the ADC or the support?

When ganking bot lane as a jungler or mid laner, is it better to go for the support or the ADC? If I go for the ADC and the support is a blitzcrank, he can pull me and I won't be able to kill the ADC. While on the other hand, if I went for the support instead, the ADC would live but the value of the support when killed would be lesser.

Ganks are more about gold income than holding someone down. So more just ask yourself, "Who's more likely to die?" Sona has no escapes and is fairly squishy. Tristana has Rocket Jump. Kalista can pull her support back. Thresh has lantern. You just have to assess from their kits, cooldowns, and positioning, who's more likely to die.

If it's a Tank/Fighter, they are harder to kill, so always go for the ADC.

If it's a Mage/Assasin, both can do drastic damage and both are squishy. Attack whoever seems easier to kill at the time then try to get the other.

If it's a Support, they can usually prevent the ADC from dying, so go for the Support first. this is especially true for Soraka.

However when you see an easy kill, go for that first.

If you'd go for the Blitzcrank for example, you give the enemy ADC time to kill someone in return. Sure he could prevent the kill if he lands the hook, but killing means nothing in this game.

You still achieve a lot: The adc is out of lane and no one on your side died. You may even still be able to get the Blitz or at least he will have trouble stopping the three of you from getting the Tower or Dragon.

I would suggest always learn what that support can do in terms of how well they can peel, but normally ADC first depending on positioning and health.

The way I look at it, first is to see which is farthest away from the safety of their turret, then which one has the better escape.

if they are fighting back, aim for the adc. if they are running away, kill whoever is farthest from their tower (unless it's like braum and you can't kill him in time).

It really depends on their positioning, cooldowns, health and champion. The ADC is the more valuable target though.

whichever one has worse positioning is the one you should target.

Whoever is easier to kill. It's almost never an "I can kill this one or that". Just go for the guaranteed kill.

Its situational on avarage killing the adc does more for your team than killing a suport

but getting a kil does more for your team than getting none setting a adc up without a suport is far from.a bad thing either

when its a healing suport like soraka and i play a jungler without hard cc/damage and are not confident with my team mates cc i prefere to target her

mvargus3/9/2015, 3:18:40 PM1 votes

I wondered about this myself. In general I try for the one that I am sure I can get. If I think I can get both I'll aim for the ADC, but if the ADC has an escape I don't want to waste my cooldowns on them if I can be sure to get the support.

It always depends on the state of the lane when I arrive. If they are pushed too far forward I'll try to setup so that my bot laners can make it a quick 3v2 and we can get both. If they are about mid-river I'll just go for the one nearest the river rather than dive past them for the ADC should the ADC be near the bushes.

ADC. The ADC is the more important target at bot lane because they're responsible for dealing most of the dmg in teamfights late game and they naturally scale better than the support. If you target the ADC and shut them down, they're going to be incredibly weak mid game since their dmg is heavily dependent on items. The support's purpose to allow their ADC to get farm so going for the adc pretty much shuts down both roles.

Very situational at times but as with everyone's posts above me. Go for the ADC.

admiralcourvoisi3/9/2015, 6:37:01 PM1 votes

It depends on what your ADC/Support combo is.

If you can trust your ADC/Support to jump whoever you don't (Graves Leona I'm looking at you), hit the support. Your lane can target the ADC and they'll have more damage/cc than a single champion will. Especially do this if the enemy support is a peel/sustain support.

If your ADC/Support combo can't engage hard, go for the ADC and try to help your lane engage.

Basically, just do whatever will make the enemy ADC die faster.

lowest health > adc > support

Inner Squid3/10/2015, 5:45:35 AM1 votes

when ganking bot target priority is usually based on a situational process. Can you kill the ADC before the support? Will the support manage to CC you long enough for the ADC to kill you? Where is your adc and support, how close to your tower? how close to their tower? Where's the opposing jungler? There are so many situational variables that a jungler has to consider that there is no single answer.

target the free kill ALWAYS

if there is a soraka, and a tristana, go for the soraka every single time

Sirin Gioro3/11/2015, 5:56:38 AM1 votes

ADC first, normally. You generally want to make him behind. Support doesn't really matter anyways... Unless it's Full AP Vel'Koz :^) If ADC manages to escape to turret quick enough, then I'd go for the support. It'd be better if you know whether either one of them have flash or not. "Cait no flash" -> go for Cait first. (◡‿◡✿)

ADC, but the easiest kill generally

don't focus leona and let tristana wail on you because you thougth she was low but is so tanky you barley hurt her so stay too long and end up feeding the adc

Umbral Light3/9/2015, 12:35:44 PM1 votes

Always go for the ADC, unless the support is low enough health to kill and continue with the ADC or if the support is being a threat forget about. 70%-90% of the time focus ADC first then support.

TotalJerk3/11/2015, 4:54:24 PM1 votes

No one mentioned this, but sometimes you should focus the support if they're the type that will save the ADC if left unattended. If you see Thresh standing back ready to throw out a lantern, one of you should shut him down with CC while the other two wipe out the ADC.

Aww Kat3/9/2015, 12:36:20 PM1 votes

Try to kill the adc so they have to respawn. They then miss out on a ton of farm, and you usually will be able to kill the adc faster than you would be able to get a support since they are usually more squishy.
