General support page?

With the reducion in rune prices my low level friend is about to buy her first set of runes.... she feels most comfortable playing support ( also plays some ADC and on rare occaisions mid). So I went looking online for some good support rune pages but its seems every champion is different. She plays Soraka and Lulu and tries out which ever support is on free rotation. Has been saving for runes since she hit level 20 so doesn't have a deep champion pool

The discounted 'AP mid' runes (m.pen red, armor yellow, mr blue, ap quint) are fine for mage supports, especially if you face AP-heavy opponents like Morgana, Karma, or Corki. From there, here are a few options to consider:

  • CDR blues - great for poke and sustain supports
  • AP blues - really aggressive, but maybe fine for Annie and Zyra.
  • Hybrid pen reds - good if you toss some auto attacks in your harass, or like to play support Kayle.
  • Health yellows - note that health yellow/armor quints gives you more stats than the reverse.
  • Armor reds - for tanks, the reds aren't far behind the yellows. Especially nice on Taric.

if you're talking about a mage support, I'd go armor yellows, mr blues, and ap quints. For reds, either magic pen or armor. Those runes are useful for many champs so they're good general purpose runes that will be efficient. Be advised that on a tank support, armor quints, hp yellows, and ad reds are more standard.

For Lulu and Soraka I personally like to take:

Health regen quints Armor seals Magic resist glyphs Armor or hybrid marks

The regen just makes it easier to stay in lane while harassing/healing. Can also take flat AP or movespeed quints.

mage support, hybrid marks, ap quints, ar yellows, mr blues.

tank initiation support, hybrid marks, health/armor/mr quints or ad/ap quints (you can be flexible here), ar yellows, mr blues.

I take Armor marks, health seals, MR glyphs and armor runes for when I want to be tanky, and Hybrid pen marks, armor seals, mr glyphs and armor quints for when I wish to poke a lot. The best option is to be tanky, no matter what youre doing. If you poke a lot, often times youll get counterpoked. You need to be able to dish out a lot of damage, and receive little

I tend to go scaling CDR gylphs so I can incorporate more AP or defense into my build. I either run gold per 10 quints or move speed quints depending on the champ. For me, if I'm going a squishy support i tend to take mana regen yellows so i can get more harass off. Armor reds are super useful in pretty much every scenario so i always run them.

Thanks. Hmm with the price reductions I think she has enough IP for AP/support and even a ADC page (AD mark + AD quint).. although I think she'll need another 500 ip for the lot. It is a shame she had already got the armor runes before the discount.
