Considering the recent complaints: Some stuff about Items.

I figured this should be a decent post about items in TFT and how random drops are. For reference, I've played DAC since around release and have likely 50+ hours in the game, so I'm well-versed in the Auto Chess genre.

First and foremost:

#Yes. You will often get less items than someone else.

One of the most common complaints in not only this but in that you can go entire rounds without getting drops. This has been a constant in DAC as well as the mobile version. It's life. It sucks. Hell, sometimes in DAC you'll get items that only combine into one specific, shitty item that doesn't do anything. (LOOKING AT YOU RING OF REGEN).

Second:

#Riot has already acknowledged that items are a problem.

Sapmagic and co. are already looking into things like normalizing drop rates and changing things up. This is pretty much assuredly in the works as it's one of the most major, core complaints about the game. They're already looking into edits, changes and more about how items are working in the game.

Now, let's get into problems that are actually with items beyond what has already been addressed:

  • 1.) Item power has no curve.

Items have curves in DAC. You have to wait until later rounds to get the absolute best things/items. That's how the game is designed and also prevents absurd high rolls like getting a refresher orb on Round 3 thanks to some lucky drops. TFT does NOT have this and as such, getting item drops early can snowball and last you the entire game. Ideally, either certain combinations should be taken out or stronger items require 3-4 items to build. Guinsoos, Shoujin and more would fall under this.

  • 2.) Spatula OP

No way around it: Spatula is the most absurdly versatile item in the game. Much like other items, it can easily snowball an advantage early and continue going. However, spatula also lets you get things that you shouldn't be able to do. A good spatula drop can make you get a full build 1-2 champions early or let you dip into a second strategy you wouldn't be able to due to having 9 slots. Spatula either needs to drop later or have more meaningful, harder-to-make combinations.

  • 3.) Item Tiers are busted.

Item power levels are busted right now due to how certain items just outclass others by a longshot. Shoujins, Guinsoos and RFC all take precedence over other items. As such, other items get left in the dust other than very specific build circumstances. This would ALSO help with certain items which feel bad to get other than specific circumstances, such as Chainmail (whose combinations feel limited) or Giant's Belt (Which doesn't create many amazing items sans, ironically, Red buff with chainmail).

Personally, if TFT continues, these are things that should be addressed. Once they are, items (even if you get less) will feel better compared to now when 2-3 drops severely outclass 0-1 drops.

still, i cant stop but wonder how feedback about items hasnt been taken into consideration until TFT launch.

the dude has a point that the inconsistent item drops have been critisized way before the official release, and im suprised that the rioters havent stumbled over this problem themselves during their playtests.

(though im not nearly as mad as him, lol. just weirded out)

while rng has a place to a certain degree, the random amount of item drops doesnt feel like it should ever have been a thing.

like the rng around the available champions still has some strategic element with which you can compensate bad luck. the general pool of available champions is shared by all players, so by what the other players have picked, you can anticipate what will be available from your rolls. when every other player has darius, youre probably not going to roll him for yourself and focus on a different unit instead which will generally be more available.

and bad early game rolls on champions are compensated with gold bonuses on loss streaks as a comeback mechanic. there are entire strategies around inting the first few rounds to econ yourself into larger gold gains, being first pick on the wheel, and build better teams as a result a few rounds later down the line.

but concerning the item drop rate, im not sure how youre supposed to build a ranked ladder with a certain level of integrity while such a big chunk of the game is decided by rng.

All just talk until it happens, the feedback existed long before launch so patience and excusing them is not appropriate. RNG should always be ridiculed and every dev dragged through the mud, its such a low-tier and lazy mechanic that even Valve learned their lesson (artifact).

Riot had all the fuckin time they had, and even on PBE to get some amount of information that shouted "items are busted and TFT is pure RNG" and they still didn't do anything to change before hitting live servers.

I played the game ONCE, and the RNG and items in that game is more toxic than summoner's rift and makes ARAM's randomness look nothing but child's play. Even though i won 3rd place, i even rage quit because i had 2 opponents with 4 champions with 3 stars, 2 of which were stacked with 2 items or more.

What did i have? Only 2 champs with 3 stars and just 1 fuckin item.

TFT is shit. Disappointing. [slayer-jinx-unamused]

Sure spatula is the most op base item in the game, but, even after they nerfed the bloody item, the cursed blade is BROKEN beyond belief. It is a "very small chance" on hit to reduce a level, yet after 3 attacks, my character was reduced TWICE. This happens all the time, its absurd.
