What does Armor Even Do in TFT?

So, Thornmail, one of the highest armor items in the game, gives you 40 armor in TFT. Meanwhile, the Noble buff gives all units 100 armor. But after I get it I don't notice any real increase in tankiness. It doesn't seem to make assassins have any harder time killing me through critical strikes. You would think 100 armor would be a pretty significant reduction, even if the enemy has a Void comp (and they don't always).

It is because crit damage is so high, the armor isn't noticeable. Feels just like normal LoL right? Inreality MR and Armor only really help much in the early levels from what I have seen. I had the double negatron cloak item and a phantom dancer on a 2 and then 3 star shen and he was such a beast early, but then later in game he got melted by a sorc group insanely fast. The only time I have done well with going tanky is vs a noble or a glacial comp that does not have a carry. The second someone gets a high damage AP or a high crit (Draven and assassins) then armor is useless.
