Creep. Rounds. Should. Award. The. Same. Number. Of. items. To. Every. Player. Who. Passes.

ChickenWrap··91 votes·15,828 views

It's not even RNG at that point.

If the first three creep rounds go by and I get 0 items and my opponent already has a Rapidfire and a Rageblade, then something is fundamentally wrong with the game mode and this should have been thought of beforehand.

A Ranked game mode can't exist when the playing field isn't even for all players like that.

Check out this 3 full item Pyke screenshot taken by Krizonar. That's after just the first three creep waves. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/443267484976545792/590987175764688936/Screen_Shot_2019-06-18_at_6.png

Perfectly balanced comrade, my Pyke has 3 finished items at 4 minutes into the game.

Oh, I also won, surely coincidence though.

Bring this up on the PBE boards if you haven't already.

pleaseeeeeeee riot......... pleaseeeee, im tired of losing a win streak early bc the other person has a whole finished item that works well with their pick while i have braum with a large rod...

OP Garen Support2 votes

It's annoying I agree but you can just sell Braum to get the item back.

Eternal Blessing1 votes

Not if he wants the Braum but if he got the Braum at this beginning then it's whatever some champs get weird things then but still you can easily turn that into something alright on Braum but getting no items during minions is kinda unfair in terms of everything else.

The whole point of autochess games and what makes them fun is that they aren't completely fair and you have chances to get extremely lucky. It isn't completely balanced. That being said, you can still land top 4 almost every time if you're a good player unless you're up against people just as good as you (and I mean exact same skill level in every way). You have chances to counter play people who are really farm ahead in your build. You have the counterplay of being able to loss streak and then going for a super good late game team. You have the ability to out macro and out position your enemy. You have the ability to know which items are better (if you happen to get any) on which character. You have plenty of opportunities to beat someone who has good RNG if you're truly better than them. But yes, if you two are the exact same skill level in every catagory, and you're not better at them in ANYTHING, it's complete rng, which again, is something a lot of the AutoChess fanbase likes... and this game was made for that fanbase.

I don't care what items I get.

I just want to get an item.

I don't care who gets what item, I just want to make sure that everyone gest the same number of items. Yeah sure, leave pieces as random (duh) but come on. Let's not release a ranked mode that relies on RNG more than League itself does.

I am part of the autochess fanbase, and that was my only real major problem with Drodo's autochess. Valve fixed it, and Riot should too. Clearing a creep wave and getting nothing feels worse and clearing Dragon and getting nothing feels awful.

Underlords has it so you get to pick from 3 choices, but if you lose the wave you get a random one. Its better than complete RNG lol...

i like that its a nice idea. no one goes empty even when behind.

i also dont see the point of creep rounds that award neither gold nor items. you get to keep your hp but thats about it.

some defensive items overall should probably be better. everyone is going for offensive items or spatulas right now.

WTF? Ranked where winning is based on rng? Hows that make sense to anyone but riot themselves. Fkn %%%%%% company

Pretty sure the gamemode is just to sell overpriced skins for even more things. Is it supposed to be competitive? Is that just what is or is that just what it is billed as. Riot can call a game competitive all they want, it's the community that actually makes a game competitive or not.

To sell skins how? You mean those stupid Little Legend things that you don't need to buy? I doubt it. It's legitimately a fun game mode. Autochess is fun.

Also yes it's supposed to be competitive and it's always been ranked. Please remember that Riot didn't invent this game.

I know Riot didn't invent it, but variations on a game doesn't necessarily make the variation as competitive as the original. Just look at league itself, it's just one of many Dota clones, not all of them are crazy competitive. Have you seen Demigod? Heroes of the storm? Heroes of Newerth? Sure, they were billed as competitive, but did they turn out to actually be competitive? Just because someone says it's a competitive game doesn't mean the community actually takes that seriously, community means pretty much everything when it comes to establishing a competitive scene, a company can't just will one into existence, but they can try.

You also just answered that yourself, they have silly cosmetics you can buy. That's it, there doesn't have to be some sort of advantage that comes from it. They didn't have to reinvent the wheel to sell rims, people like rims.

I mean, HoN didn't take off because it wasn't free. When your choices were League, DoTA, and paying 20 dollars to play DoTA with slightly nicer graphics when you already had WC3, the choice was obvious.

HoTS was intended to be competitive, but the way they ran it ruined its chances at doing so.

You're right. They have little extra things you can unlock that offer nothing to the already enjoyable gameplay that exists.

OP Garen Support2 votes

Totally agree. Also this is not the only RNG part of the mode.

I tried out the game mode. I played around 10 games. Every damn time the game was decided by RNG.

Here are the RNG parts of it:

  1. You get random items
  2. You might get items. Meaning any between 0 and 3. You get no items and your opponents got 2-3 of them.
  3. You get champs at random. So you might never collect 3 to upgrade to level 2 if your luck is shit. Have fun loosing to people who have multiple level 3 champs, while you have none.
  4. The items itself are random. You might get AP items for full AD team. You might get 6 mana items meanwhile your opponents are running the strongest items for the right champs.
  5. The game punishes you for playing well. The worst players get to pick rewards first. (1 champ with an added item to it)
  6. You can literally waste infinite number of gold and never get the champion you want.
  7. Your champs are either Challenger level or Iron Tier. They change targets at random. They don't finish off weakened enemies, They attack the full HP tank instead of the ADC who is 1 shotting you. They waste Abilities. Example Darius spins with Q even if noone is near him. Wasting his mana/special ability.

It is a fun game mode. But sure as hell it should never become a Ranked perma mode if it's like 90% luck and 10% skill.

Some fixes that might work. Give us gold instead of items. Let us buy items as well as champions. If we want a certain champion let us buy it at a double gold price. That way even if we reroll champions, we do by knowing that we may not get what we want. Accepting the risk/reward.

Don't say it's a comeback mechanic when you give unfair advantage to lower score players. You can actually cheat by intentionally loosing early game, since you only loose a few HP points. Which results in you picking a champion you want or an item which will give you an advantage for the rest of the game.

There was a similarly unfair mechanic in TeamFortress2 where players would sometimes kills you because the game gave them free crits randomly. Making bad players feel better about themselves is a shitty way of handling Ranked.

This mode can still be fixed and it does seem fun to play. Remove the RNG parts.

Ya I noticed that sometimes people hit the jackpot on items early on and just style on everyone early.

I do not understand what you are saying, but if you meant after 3 minion waves go by and enemy item is cheaper than yours so he finishes it first therefore giving him the advantage then i agree with you its somewhat stupid yet IMO hard to fix

Schoenberg1 votes

No idea how the system works but it should offer a choice of, say, 5 of the same items for each player and then you choose maybe 1 or 2. Or at least that's my preference.

Few solutions:

  • Normalize items.
  • Nerf items.
  • Make some items require 3 item combinations rather than just two.

Some of the strongest items in DAC require 3 random drops and while I disagree that we should have item systems like they do entirely (Fuck getting 10 cloth armors while one guy sports a MoM and Chrysalis), stronger items should require more investment.

You actually got 10 cloth armors? Bro, screw you, I didn't even get 1 Cloth armor, all I got was a rock, and its not very useful.

I Like Teemo1 votes

items should be more consistent but not normalized.. if you dont get an item on the first 2 you should be guaranteed at least one on the last one, and vice versa, you get 2 between the first 2 combined then you get none on the last..

but lets not forget how glitchy blade masters are, how super ridiculous the rng is on glacial, and how god awful the 6 yordle comp is right now... trist dps is worst ranger, lulu ult doesn't always work, gnar is very bad as mini so if he gets chain cc'ed he does nothing. if not for Kennens' high damage aoe stun and vigar being able to 1 shot if he's a higher level they would be the worst 6 stack

ıPatch1 votes

This is partially why I find this very fun game to be somewhat of an RNG fest. Fun yet frustrating.

TwitchInMyPants1 votes

This really isn't an issue in DAC since you aren't guaranteed components to something good

TFT though? Every item is half of something useful. Having large variance in the number of components easily is a gamechanger. There should be a minimum number of items for sure.

Power Cosmic1 votes

It is a RNG board game. Most everything in the game comes down to a "dice roll." So how seriously you take it, or your rank, is up to you.

Vreivai1 votes

It is RNG at that point.

It's just RNG deciding who wins the game.

And it's shitty.

Eternal Blessing1 votes

My opinion not everyone should get the same amount of items if anything there should at least be a minimum set of items you can get like 2 or 3 items AT LEAST after minions but the no items is stupid I've dealt with it so far 3 times in a row with somehow going 3rd place in one of them but it was still torture.

Dr40UR1 votes

I 100% agree with this. This is my only gripe with the gamemode so far. You should get a fixed amount of items based on the difficulty of the encounter and whether or not you pass. It feels super stupid having a good team, with good synergy, just to die because someone has an Aurelion Soul with 4 items or something stupid like that. Or beating one of the difficult PVE bosses just to get dick out of it. It's not fair.
