@Riot Can we please have a serious discussion about the status of custom game modes?

Anyone who's tried to play custom game modes (Hide and seek, Protect the queen, Racing, King of the Scar, etc) knows that this is the area of the game that is more laden with trolls than any other. There is no system of checks in balances to enforce rules, and the "Honor" system works about 1% of the time. The other 99% you have trolls and sore losers ruin the whole thing.

I'm sure people will come in here and say that custom game modes shouldn't be supported because they're just a small portion, or they're things people made up that don't matter. But there are a few important details to consider:

  1. Custom game modes (hide and seek most primarily) make up a portion of the community almost as large as dominion and TT, both of which riot has pledged to support. At any given time, it's easier to find a match of H/s than it is to find a round of dominion.

  2. Custom game modes are super fun. Try one sometime. If you don't get trolled, it's a great experience.

  3. Custom game modes expand the diversity of the game.

Despite this, 0 attention has been given to the custom game mode community. It was a huge hit when all IP was removed from uneven teams in custom games, and thus several game modes now have no ip gains. It would've been easy to allow a 5v2 situation ip gains (bots can currently use a 3v3 if they want to IP farm, and that requires less people than 5v2) but it was ignored. Trolls run rampant, which means that the playerbase has almost no opportunity to grow and thrive.

To make matters worse, Riot has created it's own game modes such as ascenscion, hexakill and doom bots as custom events. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the game modes, but they show one core issue; Riot is willing to give large amounts of support to modes that exist for two weeks tops, but is unwilling to give any acknowledgement to game modes which have existed for years with a consistent playerbase. This mentality of "we're going to ignore anything the community requests" has grown increasingly tiresome.

This makes custom game modes toxic not only from the trolls who ruin them, but from no attention whatsoever to that community base. And yet people still play them. This demonstrates that they not only have the potential to maintain a substantial playerbase, but that they have the potential to make this game more interesting and more fun.

Now, let me be clear: I am not advocating for creating a queue for hide and seek, or any other game modes. Here are the things I am advocating for.

  1. Restore IP to 5v2 situations. There's no logic against this. If people want to farm IP, they can do 3v3 already.

  2. Allow players who quit custom games to join other games even if the custom game is still in progress. This, right here, would get rid of large percentage of trolls. In my experience, most people troll because they want the game to end, so they can play another one or because they're bored. Leavers are relatively low impact in custom games because they don't operate on rules of "let's kill eachother"; in most instances, the custom game has contingencies for leavers. Have the ability to rejoin if you want, but allow others to join queues.

  3. Allow some form of troll removal once in game. Either make it a vote-based system, or give the power to the leader. Either way, this is again a sweeping solution that there is no reason should not be put in place. If #2 was put in place, it wouldn't encourage trolling whatsoever; it'd actually give incentive not to troll, on fear that they'll be kicked out. You could do this on a 5 minute basis, meaning people are kicked for 5 minute, at which point they rejoin, and if they troll they get kicked again.

  4. Consider adding specific game-mode settings to custom games. Just like there is Aram, we could also have KoS, Racing, Hide and Seek, etc. It wouldn't actually be too difficult to implement; Hide and seek would just be taking away damage from hider's cc and removing their vision and cc once you get to 5 deaths, KOS would be where once one person from each team enters the center, it's sealed off, and once all 5 die the top point auto-caps. Things like that would be amazing, and would make the game modes virtually impossible to troll.

5)If you won't make any changes, at least tell us why. Please, we as a community have been completely ignored. Let us know that you do support all of your players.

Upvote and bump for custom-game mode awareness. Thank you for reading.

Wow, lol. Never thought I'd see the day. It's kind of bullshit to ask Riot to enforce your custom game rules, especially when they change every other week and every player seems to have their own idea of how to play.

"I WONDER WHY I HAVE TROLLS IN MY HIDE & SEEK, MY OWN PERSONAL SIX PAGE LONG RULE LIST I POSTED ON THE FORUM THAT NOBODY READS WAS VERY CLEAR LOL"

Here's an idea: how about playing the actual fucking game? Riot barely manages to support the modes they already have.

I don't know about this one, I agree with you that these custom games are really fun when playing normals gets boring. However, I don't expect Riot to do anything about it, it's too bad really.

Your argument is invalid in my opinion. In ranked play, there are many trolls. Riot does nothing about it. So, to ask them to do something about trolls in customs is not worth the time. There are trolls in every game mode and Riot doesn't do anything about them in any other mode.
