In a Factions mode, which factions (e.g. Demacia, Ionia) would you want to be playable?

So here's an idea. What if we had something like the old Noxus vs. Ionia match that Riot sponsored years ago? Except a version that was open to the general community? We could pick a set of factions (maybe three or four at a time), come up with something they could be fighting over, assign faction-specific Champions to each, and then let Summoners declare for a faction and fight for its cause. We could keep track of match outcomes, and ultimately decide how the story moves forward based on which factions triumph over the others.

Surprise! It exists. :3 As a community mode, anyway. Factions been around for about a year, and we've gone through five complete storylines, the outcomes of which have been shaped by over one thousand scored matches and dozens of shoutcasted tournaments — as well as interactive lore events in which Summoners help make key decisions for their factions.

Next Episode Starts Soon

We just finished the fifth Factions storyline, Hextech Revolution. We'll start the next one in August.

We're currently holding a vote to decide which factions will be playable next.

You can cast your vote here.

We've decided that Bilgewater needs to be in the next arc no matter what, since they haven't had a shot yet and this storyline centers around the discovery of a new continent.

There are a few reasons.

  • The most significant reason: match organization. If you have 20 people ready to play split between 4 factions, you can likely get multiple games going at once. If you have 20 people ready to play split between 8 factions, you may not be able to get even one game going.
  • It's also a matter of storyline cohesion. With more than about 4 factions, it's very, very hard to give each faction the spotlight time that they deserve.
  • Finally, a smaller number of matchups lets Summoners learn in more depth how these matchups work.
