So Riot has referred to him as a demon

So, I think in order for Tahm to consume you and to even be able to benefit from eating you, you have to make a deal with him.

You have to literally make a deal with the devil. He naturally knows what people want most, even if they want it deep deep down but know it's not realistic to get it. Tahm Kench can get you that.

He seems like he was ripped straight from Southern USA interpretations of the Judaeo Christian Devil.

Making something original in this world without another person having the idea in the past is nearly impossible. Seriously, even if it might seem like you just created something so very cool and original to the point that people acknowledged this the credit is going in the wrong direction. Somebody thousands or hundreds of years ago most likely already had the thought but not for the right time period. Ideas are expanding at such a rate that generations in the future will have to accept this as a fact. More freedom = more ideas = an expanding world of consumption.

Not really... Don't get me wrong, it does have the ring of some "The devil went to Georgia..." like story, you are right about that, but stories about deals with monstrous prices aren't exclusive to the Southern US either.
