Then the Roleplaying Board might be exactly what you're looking for!

On the RP Board, we tell interactive stories and play as original characters, or even as some of your favorite champions, within the Runeterra Universe. We also have some roleplays set in some of Riot's "Skin Universes." Want to take part in an "Academy" or "PROJECT" roleplay? We've got those too. Not a fan of making your own character? No problem! We have a way that you can play one of League's many champions! Just check out which ones are currently available, and dive in.

I had an idea, though im not sure what everyone would think about it. as we all know, Riot has released a few stories, diving into the lives of some of our favorite champions. But, it is just a story. So i propose something quite controversial. Create a story mode for League. We can live moments beyond Summoners Rift, and really immersing ourselves into Runterra. In my opinion, it would solve the separation of lore and gameplay. Like i said, this is just an opinion, and it will probably get shot down, but it would be really cool to see something like this. I hope you read this Riot! Thank you for your time.

They should have something like the DOTA story mode! Except more like a traditional RPG. They would have to sell it separately to actually make money though.

Just so we're clear, while I have have no issue at all with this kind of random fanfiction roleplaying stuff, I just don't want any Rioter getting the impression that it's a substitute for cannon lore.

Roleplaying is awesome! I love playing D&D! I have a group that meets up every week and I love it.I'm all for the Roleplaying boards.

As long as both the players and Riot realize that none of it is cannon and it doesn't count as lore.

As long as Riot never uses these boards as an excuse for not producing their own origonal lore content (like a certain Rioter actually tried to justify doing once) I'm totally in support of it.

Sorry if I'm coming across as too defensive, but I don't really know what kinda mindset Riot has towards this kinda stuff these days.

I hope these boards flourish though. The're important to the LoL community.

I wouldn't worry about that, friend. The RP Boards have existed before the lore retcon, and before the JoJ stopped being a thing. Them existing didn't stop new lore or stories from happening then, and they certainly haven't now. I'm fairly certain most Rioters and Narrative people don't even know the RP Board exists, even! We're a small, mostly hidden community. I don't think Riot would make us a replacement for anything. XD

What you say makes sense, but with the crazy shit that Riot's pulled with it's in-cannon lore over the last few years...you never know. Riot hasn't exactly shown that it's willing to stray true to its lore.

They haven't exactly been "faithful" to their game's story.

The lore that drew me into this world was erased, and obviously I'm still butthurt about it. I might not always be constructive about my opinion (although I try), but I'm gonna try to keep sharing my opinion in hopes that Riot will choose a better way.

It's all I really can do, and I feel that it's worth doing. I love Runeterra as it was originally designed, and I'm sad to see it gone.

I do have to ask, are the RP boards actually... well, actually alive? I just skimmed through it, but most of the threads don't seem to get past 1 or 2 pages, and they don't seem to be updated often either. Seems kinda like a ghost town... err, ghost boards? to be honest.

Yes, they're very alive, just not as active as some Boards like GD or even here on Story and Art. This is mainly because it takes time to write out RP posts, and lots of people are busy.

It's also due to the fact that when we moved, we also got hit with the lore retcon stuff, and found it hard to recover completely.

In addition to that, being a private board, while mostly keeping out riff-raff, also lead to us being starved of new blood to keep things moving. So, that's ultimately why we talked with some Rioters and worked out a way for us to have this sticky thread, to draw in people who might want to play with us in the world.

Honestly, with the exclusiveness and the feel that the roleplay boards moves slower than the old lore forumns, not really. I think the one thing that sets me off is not being able to rp as a summoner, and the exclusiveness of rping as a champ :/.

I am certain there was never a High Noon or Warring Kingdoms Alt Universe lore but if you can organize it with the Yas, Jhin, and TF of the time (For the High noon example) then you can make one up. But Battlecast and Mecha both have some story behind them I believe, Steel Legion/Bioforge too for what it is worth, but there is currently only a PROJECT: RP going on right now in terms of skin based AU RP.

I don't really understand. How are we supposed to role play here? I mean I see people posting starters and such, and I've role played before, and do it quite often but I'm just confused how I can do it here, I'm eager to post a starter and someone respond but I'm a bit shy and embarrassed to.

We have threads and the like to help people who are looking to get their feet wet, but aren't sure how to start. They're linked at the top of the boards, and have lots of useful information in them that will help you take your first steps.

And, if those threads are too much or too confusing for you, feel free to post your questions in the OOC Lounge in there, and community members can answer them for you. =D
