Tribute to varus's old theme and soon old vo
i really liked this tragic version of varus that lost everything against noxus and feel really sad about it leaving league in favor of varus being now an ambient killer weapon...

SpecterVonBaren4 votesThere is still potential for them to give us something of the actual old Varus back if they elaborate on the new Darkin Varus (Not the two guys he's possessing but the actual being of the bow) and make his backstory something like old Varus then we might be able to keep something.

SpecterVonBaren1 votesEhhh... I guess so. I'd need to think over the idea a bit so I could have a decent idea. Something I thought of was having Darkin Varus have been a more peaceful Darkin initially, one that sought more peaceful living between his race and that of those on Runeterra but that he was double crossed at one point and his family and many of his people were killed because of it. Thus he turned to brutal torture and killing of humans and other Runeterra races. Something like that.

HalcyonDweller7 votesIt would have been possible to preserve the actual tragedy of the old lore though. If you look at the comic for the new lore, Varus went into the pit not knowing what it was. In the old lore he knew it was a dark force already.
When he chose to accept it and let it corrupt him it was so much more tragic and meaningful in the old lore because he knew exactly what he was doing and he did it anyways.
In the new lore he basically just ran to the pit in his grief, and fell for its trap instead of knowingly choosing to accept the evil within. Riot could have kept the knowing acceptance of it and still had their update mostly the same.

actually if you read what riot said afterwards (no link sry) they go on to mention that varus was just gonna take the living body, but instead varus chose to honor the legend of the well and grant his friend life in exchange for them letting varus corrupt it. So Kai willingly took in the darkness to save the one he loved he just didn't know it was evil until moments before the deal was struck.
HalcyonDweller5 votesI do not recall seeing that anywhere, and it was not represented properly by the comic or the video. To be accepted as common lore something must be properly represented in the actual media of the lore.
As such, I'm not inclined to believe that. They should have made it clear in the comic. Now most people will think that it was just some edgy "screw the prophesy, I'm in love" trope instead of "Yeah you're evil, but I don't care because I have nothing left to lose" trope.

ChuShoe1 votesI don't think I would've even cared that much had his wife just been replaced with a dude. It just feels like so much pointless change. It was already speculated that a Darkin lived at the bottom of the pit anyways, so I just think that Kai putting his mate into the pit despite the warnings Kobayashi gives him (and the oath he took and willingly broke) makes him overly-selfish, and in the end I really just wanted Varus to win in spite of the couple.

inb4 his story was a cliche like Lucian. Varus felt guilt because HE left his post too late to save anyone. He was also the only person before Kayn who had an unique interaction of being half way through the darkinn transformation.
