Bye to the Beautiful Ahri Splash :'(

I guess it's time to say my good bye to the beautiful old classic Ahri splash. :'( The splash art that brought me into the game and the champion + her kit that kept me for 3 years. I fell in love with the splash art from how elegant she looked & in this new one I just can't fall in love again. It would have been nice if she had looked the same, or if the same artist from her Popstar skin splash worked on it if anything (ESP YOU KNOCKWURST). To me.. this new Ahri seems like a sickly witch. I'm not a fan of the red eye shadow and the massive looking chin stands out a lot for me. ew :/ The atmosphere is SO much darker, the tails are so cluttering, she has really messy hair, and her pose is just not the best. This is not how I ever saw Ahri & because I do plan on cosplaying her at some point, I'm going to go by the original Ahri. I don't like how the dress now cups her boobs & how the skirt is now plainer than the original. When I look at her and all her skins, she just doesn't match in. I feel like she needs a slight tan as well :( Unless you guys plan on redoing the splashes for Dynasty, Midnight, & Foxfire too. I mean they are pretty much the same quality of the original Ahri splash. Ugh, I don't want this. Riot.... you should really be careful before ruining something very iconic to your game. Just because it's new it doesn't always mean it's better. She used to be the most beautiful Champion to me & now all I see is people saying how ugly she is now. Ergh. I mean don't get me wrong, I won't stop playing her because I find her kit the funnest but seeing the derpy official icon is very upsetting :c

This splash change is part of Riot's Design Values: Counterplay. Everyone thought Ahri was beautiful and wanted to play her. To make it fair for other champions and players, they had to nerf her. With this new splash, it'll scare people away so that they can play other champions. COUNTERPLAY

I have come to pay my respects as well. I will miss the old Ahri splash, not only for the facial changes brought about with the new, but because I always liked her beautiful, slender legs. Now, you get tail.

YES. That's what I hate about the new splash tails. They're way too cluttered on her & it's the only splash where her tails are like that. I hate it.

Too dark + creepy vines / branches in background. If they are going to show some booty then I'd think you would also have to show where the tail is at least connecting to. Bring back dem hips and thighs. Her orb effects are covering chunks of her unnecessarily. Why do I feel like Ahri is pulling away from me? The old one felt like I was being drawn in at least to her orb. (Then the legs).

I don't ever log onto these forums, but I felt strongly enough about Ahri's new splash art and minimap icon that I just had to. I strongly dislike her new splash art and minimap icon. The old Ahri splash art was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! She's now lost all the softness and grace in her face and looks more like a witch.

Her minimap icon is hard to identify quickly. I know you have a team that works on this, because I saw the guy talk about it in your Santa Monica office tour video. Ahri's new minimap icon does not stand out, and the icon artwork makes her look like a male Japanese teenager.

I know your people work hard on these things, but please rethink some of these reworks some more before you approve them.

And please do not change Annie. I love to play Annie. She is such an awesome champ to play. I love her current splash art and her icon is awesome. Please don't change her large childish asian-like eyes, big furrowed brows, and pouty lips that shows she means business. Please DO NOT try to make her more toony, like it appears you're going for with some of these champion updates. Annie is perfect just the way she is. Thanks.

I agree with everything you said :( It'd be nice if Riot did something but I doubt they even care anymore despite the fact it looks so bad and many people are just calling Ahri ugly now. I know that's not what they were aiming for but that was the outcome. I'll be happy if it's reverted or if knockwurst makes a new one for her, he was the one to make the original masterpiece. Oh my goodness, if they touch Annie, they're just going too far.

There's still a possibility though, I think they pushed this splash art live already knowing its issues just because of the deadlines and to put it live at the same time of the new skin...

Exactly, since the original is preferred, they should just give touch ups to make it look HD. We don't care that it's the same art.

Let's see. We were satisfied with the original, Dynasty, Midnight, Foxfire, Popstar, and Challenger. So never? I think not. We just like the designers who actually know how to draw Ahri. Not have the new splash not even look like the same person in the rest of her skins and classic & in game model. smh people don't listen to the reasons.

But she didn't even look like a human. Her face proportions were similar to a turtle. Now at least she looks like a real human being (mostly like a korean female which she's supposed to be). Ahri players need to stop whining, because nobody will listen to them. Nobody listened to Karma players who actually had a big reason to whine and Riots don't love Karma if we compare her to Ahri. You must be happy that your favorite character is having a new skin ever year and your threads are not being deleted. Nobody would defend those who main Karma, nobody. Everyone would yell at them because they don't like the new Lotus skin or they miss something from her old kit and everyone will call a whining Karma player a psycho. Why should anybody tolerate Ahri players whining at this point? I'm tired of these regular whining Ahri splash threads, because I know that Karma players will be abused if they start whining. They are just a small amount of people. Nobody cares about them. Enjoy that at least you are not being punched in the face like others.

It's not like we ask for skins. Riot makes them for Ahri because they are gonna make A LOT of money off of them. They're gonna do this with most popular champs. It is business. I am simply saying good bye. If you don't like these threads why keep coming to them? I'm pretty sure you would be upset if something you didn't like happened to your fave champ. Am I right? Ahri just has a really big fan base, she is very iconic to the game. We don't care if Riot is not listening. We are just sharing or thoughts and opinions. lol.

Also, Dauntless sounds more impressive than Challenger because it's more esoteric.

Apart of the name I also find the new skin a bit artificial, IDK why but if you look at all her others skins they're more thematic, Challenger Ahri is just flat :(

Yeah.. the name Challenger caused more confusion than Dauntless. Dauntless even sounded better :c idk but I think they should have done something more exciting with her hair under that headpiece. Like give it some more flair & some more ooomff idk xD

How the hell is the new splash art realistic? Her spine is twisted into a pretzel so you can see both her breasts and her ass, her top hugs over her body in a way that would only be possible if it had special pockets for her breasts, and her shoulders and wrists are outright broken.

It's about as realistic as every tits-and-ass comic book cover from the 90's, which is to say that it makes Jessica Rabbit look realistic by comparison.

^ I loved this. Yes the top, it's terrible now. Even makes cosplaying her really weird :( I don't understand why they thought the splash looked good enough to just make slight changes to. I've seen better poses in fan arts anyway.

Yeah, it honestly amazes me how many fan artists pay better attention to anatomy than so-called professional artists. To anyone who thinks that the new Ahri splash is realistic, I dare you to try and make her pose. Don't even bother with her lower body, at least twist her left arm into the same position as in the art. I just tried and now my shoulder feels like it got headbutted by a bear.

The breast pockets are admittedly a personal peeve of mine because they show how bad an artist really is. It shows that they don't actually know how clothing works in terms of physics (which is to say, how it drapes over the body), they just draw the outline of a naked body and then paint clothes over it.

Have you read the entire thread? Krizalid Brando argued that the OP of this post dislikes the new Ahri splash because it looks "more realistic". I pointed out that it's anything but because her pose is anatomically impossible and her clothing is ridiculous.

That said, bad anatomy still makes for bad art regardless of how stylized the art is. The only times when your character should have their body warped into something visibly unnatural is when you're drawing injury or body horror, otherwise you're giving your audience a ticket to the Uncanny Valley.

I don't believe visibly unnatural leads to Uncanny Valley. I think there's a decent line between a decent exaggeration and creepy unnatural. (I think back to the Twist of Fate cinematic for the former.) Also old ahri splash looked better. New splash looks a little creepy. I don't like the dark Twisted Treeline tone for ahri. Better off for Khazix or Rek'Sai maybe?

Actually, as a woman, I can tell you that designing the kind of outfit Ahri is wearing in that image around wire would make it hurt like everloving fuck for any unfortunate soul who would attempt wearing it. The wire would cut into your bustline every step of the way and everything would be pain and tears.

Not that you need to be female to know that, you just need to have a moderate degree of intimate contact with the female gender.

Please stop trying to insult the art and deal with the changes

Holy lord, please you win, I could never care so much about a game xD im waiting for an install and hopped on threads to defend someone. now im being harassed myself for trying to bring realization in to a GAME. its a game and that's it, that's all it will ever be so wheres the fantasy in making it too real? Tits and ass are popular appeal and I guarantee she'll bring in more players now than before considering the males piggish nature. Im sorry shes not real enough and her "pretzel spine" (still don't understand that) doesn't appeal to you anymore. May riot hear your pleas and reverse their hard work. How did anything I said imply that I care a humongous lot about a game? Do I need to care obsessively about a game in order to criticize its artwork and point out why it doesn't work? Is there some kind of clause that dictates I must have a deep emotional connection to the game before I get upset about it featuring a piece of bad art?

I've been gaming since 1990, have 2,000 games on my Steam account and 500 more on GOG. I have played about 60% of them and can make valid arguments for and against various parts of everything I played. That in no way implies I have some kind of deep emotional connection to all of that. In fact, the only games I indisputably give a fuck about are Nier, Transistor, Darksiders, Aquaria and Dawngate.

So no, I think you assume that I'm taking this much more personally than I actually am. I swear I can discuss a bad piece of art without having some kind of obsessive hard-on for Ahri, just as I can argue with you and other people without having any sort of personal issue with you. This is just an internet argument. We're cool, brosis.

Popstar and Challenger are very Anime-like and look NOTHING like the others. Challenger when I saw it instantly looked like Elise. So there's something off there when she looks like another champion.

I mean come on you thought that Ahri looks fat in the original splash. LOL first time I ever heard that from anybody. I can still see her face only a little bit of her mouth area is covered. A dated champ would look like irelia, taric, amumu, anivia, sawin, etc. This one still has good quality but just not all that HD. The person who painted Classic Ahri, is a skilled artist.

I think Knockwurst really has the anatomy and look of Ahri down. What I would like is if he collaborated with the other artists to make the HD version of the original splash - Knockwurst provides the base, the other artist adds the high detailed polished look that is consistent with all the latest splash updates.
