The Barded Lady, Mother Serpent, What is she?

Something that I've been wondering about since the Bilgewater event, was what the Bearded Lady was. She obviously had some power in Bilgewater in an ancient time due to her temple, but it sounds like River King has more sway then here in this day.

What stuck me most however, was Gangplank's last line, “Everything must have a purpose. Cut it off, I’ve got work to do.” This doesn't simply sound like the words of a man with a plan, but a man who believes there is a plan for him, a man of some faith. I have a feeling that Gangplank believes that he still has the Bearded Lady's favor, and that the loss of his arm was part of a grander plan for him, and that he may be her champion.

Back to what the Bearded Lady is, I don't think she's an eldritch void horror as some people think, or a sea serpent as her literal name suggests. Serpents are not often connected to the sea or 'beards' in lovecraft stories, and sea serpents are not often depicted with beards of hair. This causes me to think that the Bearded Lady may be some form of Eastern style Sea Dragon, which are often depicted with a flowing mane and a long serpent body.

An interesting thing as well is that the Bearded Lady is given a specific gender. This suggests that at some point the Mother Serpent was seen either nurturing a child, or speaking directly to people, perhaps even teaching them in her temple. She may even have a connection to Ao Shin, whenever he is finally finished.

Perhaps I am reading into this too much and it is just some sea dog's tale. But in the world of Runeterra, I doubt that when people pray to a god of some kind, there isn't one listening.

TLDR: The Bearded Lady is most likely an easter style Sea Dragon.

Uhm... I always thought MissFortune was the "Bearded Lady"... some sort of metaphor of Gangplanks but alas...

Could be one of Bilgewater's Sea Monsters but not generic. She is also the 'Mother Serpent'. Probably the brood of them all feeding from Bilgewater's deceased among other things.

If you read Act 3 a tentacle pulls down a corpse as Graves drags unconscious Twisted Fate away. ooOOoo

I personally think the Bearded Lady's not so much a godly being or an actual mother of sea monsters like Echidna from Greek mythology, but more of an intelligent sea beast of incredible size and age. The Explore Bilgewater section talked about the fact that sea monsters are attracted to the Blue Flame Isles for some reason that no one's sure about, and I'd suspect that our great lady is powerful enough that she has a degree of command or control over smaller sea beasts, and is the force directing them.

Why though? Perhaps she has a hatred for surface dwelling creatures and sent sea monsters to terrorize those who would claim the sea as their home, or perhaps she's actually trying to just keep people away from this part of the world for whatever reason; the isles could be a place where these monsters come to breed or its of significant importance in the way of ocean currents and such, meaning the Bearded Lady would want to protect it. Or maybe, and this is probably way less likely than anything, maybe she's trying to protect the humans from the threats of the sea. We all known of the fate of Nautilus, maybe the Bearded Lady pities humans and their limited understanding and so hopes to send sea monsters after them as a deterrent from exploring the sea.

Over all I'd say the Bearded Lady is likely not a true god, but a creature of incredible power and intelligence regardless, far more so than the vast majority of beings we've ever seen in the League of Legends universe.

Plot twist: The Bearded Lady is Ao Shin.

I think it's very obvious what the Bearded Lady is, considering what her mark resembles in the new artwork. She is a massive sea creature, to be sure, with a distinct head with eyes and a gaping maw. They back of her head is covered in spines, possible webbed like that of the Kraken portrayed in recent Hollywood adaptations. The BEARDED element is most likely a reference to the many tentacles she has beneath her face. She is likely orders of magnitude larger than the standard sea monsters near Bilgewater, and her presence may gather small parasitic creatures or repel competing predators or prey in such a way that her influence gives her a commanding presence in the sea that inspires the motherhood or leadership element. She may spawn smaller Kraken that are normally killed before they grow to be anywhere near her size.
