i am actually pretty pumped about no new lore at the moment
i hope it leads up to somehting super cool for a huge GP like event

Same. Want me some Targon event.
That's definetly where it seems to be headed. My bet is its with the Taric rework, and that they put him in the Mt Targon region
Maybe the next champion will also be from Targon.
Or Shurima, since they also said that the shurima lores are coming this year as well
Potentially. they do like to sync these up since reworks and new champions are great opportunities to delve in to such things.
Or alternatively we get an Illaoi situation where an event leads to a new champ/rework a few months down the road.
I could imagine something along the lines of: New targon lores come out, then comes a new shurima champ along with the new shurima lore, then comes the taric rework with an event and after that we might get a new targon champ.
Ofc thats just speculation,I mean we can't even be sure if there is a targon event this year or not,it might be really just the updated lores.
I kinda just want more Ascended champions really. I mean Nasus and Renekton couldn't have been the only ancient Ascended, considering how vast an empire Shurima was and how long it was standing for. Would most certainly welcome any kind of Shuriman champion though.
One thing about the Targon event I'm worried about is not so much what comes of it, but what the community thinks will come. We don't know the scope of our trips to Mount Targon and Shurima and they could be anywhere from Burning Tides sized to Harrowing sized. I fear the expectation might be set that we'll get EVERYTHING for Mount Targon, but we won't, and people'll be sad.
Yeah I'm also a bit afraid that the community might have its expectations a bit too high.
I mean it looks like we are getting the updated targon lores just like that,so who knows if this is done as a sort of preparation for a targon event(one problem i had with the bilgewater event was that we didn't know what was still canon about the champs and what not,so updating the lores before is actually a good idea),or if they really just meant that they update the targon lores...
A bit weird is also that we still didn't get anything about the shurima lores,I mean they were supposed to come out before the targon lores,so either they'll come alongside the targon lores(I mean they have already short lores,so its hard to tell when they are ready) or they are still waiting for something specific(which is why I think a new shurima champ is not that unlikely). And overall I'm pretty sure that we'll get an ascended based on bastet eventually(not necessary as the next champ though),I mean she is one of the most popular egypt gods and she would finally add a female ascended.
With the Bilgewater stuff we actually had some lead up; announcements for the GP/MF reworks, a map on the pbe for a month before release, etc. This time around we only have the short paragraphs which are only indicative of long bios + colour text, and nothing else. Hell we might not even get a story with it depending on what the priorities are. I assume there'll be a Targon story at least but I'm even skeptical of that, simply because I'm being hyper cautious about my expectations. Given we're getting lore in some regard I'm happy regardless, but I'm half tempted to make a big post telling people "We know sod all about what's coming in addition to these bios. CHILL FOLKS", just because I'm concerned about community expectations.
I guess things might've just got switched around? I dunno. The assumption based on the way it was described was that it was Shurima then Targon, but given we've had this flipped around it's a big question mark. When there were strings on the PBE about Crystal Scar I began to consider a Crystal Scar VU and some Brackern/Skarner specific lore in conjunction with other Shurima related stuff, but we all know how that went down so I'm not sure. Either way it's best to take things step by step and be like "Ok we have this now, ok." and just abide to caution and trepidation rather than assuming anything. We know little of the internal planning and work flow of Riot right now, especially in conjunction with lore, so there's only room for wild assumptions right now.
Yeah I'm also a bit afraid that the community might have its expectations a bit too high.
It's entirely reasonable that we are. The bilgewater event had a whole new map and gamemode for us to play with. I bet a lot of people are hopping for the same thing with a Targon event.
Hell, I'm hopping for the same thing!
But we're probably hopping for too much. I've already accepted that
will most likely not get a VU in this event. At this point, I'll just take what I can get in terms of new lore and attention to Mt. Targon.
I feel like from a lore perspective, we should expect more events like Shadow and Fortune in the future rather than Bilgewater sized events.
Shadows and fortune didn't feel so much like an event. It was more of a story expansion to me.
I'm not against some lore in the morning. Gives me something else to read after class.
Yeah pretty much. Shadow and Fortune was essentially further story and not much in the events department, but I feel that's great because it means lore doesn't have to be tied to big events to be developed. With that in mind I'm looking forward to the Mount Targon, Shurima and Freljord stuff planned for this year simply because of the lore implications; there's actual story progression planned out for the year!
the unseen gems, are the deadliest, i will make you fabulous
in before it ends up like the harrowing last year.
