I rather enjoyed the new Bilgewater lore, not least because (unless I've missed something) it's largely backwards-compatible with the established lore, and for that matter with the League of Legends.

At least on my first read, nothing stood out as incompatible with prior lore. The closest it came was the uber-dark "torturing people for kicks" Gangplank, but GP was always supposed to have a scary side. (I do wish the writers would have gone with something a little more original than a torture scene for their kick-the-dog moment. But hey, it's quick and effective. We see a character torturing somebody, that's a clear signal that this character is scary.) It didn't turn TF into a lizard-man or make MF Ionian.

And hey, there was a suit of Demacian armor! It's almost as though someone from Bilgewater might have had contact with Demacia! That's a nice break from the "ahhh, legends do tell of a strange place known as _______, but perhaps they are only stories!" approach.

If you paid attention, you'd notice that Gangplank wasn't torturing that guy for kicks, he was teaching him a lesson. Either for stealing from him or for questioning his authority. As he said to the boy, you are what people make out of you, and in order to keep cutthroats and pirates under your rule, you gotta show that there are consequences for disobeying you.

Plus, the fact that he gave the kid a silver serpent and a warm meal shows that he does have a sense of fairness. His terms seem to be "Obey me and I will treat you well, go against me at your own peril".

I was waiting for this CupcakeTrap.

Thank you so much. None of the current lore would break anything, since everything done is not against IoW policies. Except Graves trying to kill T F but I doubt Graves would give a fuck about that.

Are you kidding me about the torture? Of all of the ways Gangplank could torture someone, bone carving is definitely not one I'd expect! You gotta give props for originality in that!

The Demacian armor was a stroke of genius. Keeps the Runeterran universe alive, and that is always good to have!

I'm too jaded at this point to really enjoy it anymore, but that could also just be me being tired and irritated about a loss too. But I'll take what I can get, at this point.
