Blood of Noxus: Noxian Surnames?

If Darius and Quilletta had children and weren’t married, as seemingly implied in the story, then potentially Noxus doesn’t care much about the children needing to be born to married couples, which would probably stand in contrast to Demacia.

On another note, if they were married at some point, if Quill’s last name was “Varn” as shown on the Medarda Heirloom map, and so was Invetia’s… Is it possible that Darius’ own surname might also be Varn?

Darius Varn sounds pretty cool to me, honestly.

Though it’s equally possible that it’s just Quilletta’s surname and she never took his name when they were together, or if they were ever married. Admittedly she's called his "paramour", which typically has a negative connotation, like the person with whom someone is having an affair, but can also be used to identify a lover and romantic partner. Still, this potentially says something about Noxian naming conventions.

If women bear children out of wedlock in Noxus, they might simply take the name of the parent with whom they live. So, if they live with the father, they take his surname. If they live with their mother, they take her surname.

It’s also equally possible in situations like that one that the children may instead take the name that is most beneficial to the family for some reason or another. The children may be named “Varn” because Quilletta’s name might have been more fitting, since perhaps she didn’t want the Legion to know about Darius having children, or maybe it was a decision made by both of them. After all, if you have enemies, going for your family is an easy way to get to you. And when you're a big, famous commander like Darius, and your children are potentially serving in the military as well, they could make easy targets for political enemies.

Still, this raises a lot of interesting worldbuilding questions, and I'd love to see someone in the know chip in on the topic.
