An idea to revamp Evelynn's story

Okay, so Evelynn 's never had quite the cohesive story or identity. I think we all can admit this. She's "mysterious." That's the basis. Okay, well let's actually think.

  • Evelynn is thought to be tied to the Shadow Isles, and I think this has been confirmed by a Rioter.
  • It's been speculated that she was born with some form of mild vampirism, and she's got fangs to match, but it's not known.
  • Her ears, as confirmed in an old post by Shurelia, I think, indicate someone who's physical appearance has changed due to rapid ascension with/from magic. (Janna and Zilean have them if you look as well. )
  • Eve is an assassin for hire, and she's really good at it: it's implied her stealth is an actual power she has in the real world.
  • She's doing sh'tuff to further person gain. HER AMBITIONS ARE GROWING. She will affect everyone... What is she doing again? Oh, we don't know.

And that's the problem. We don't know anything about Evelynn. Not even her personality. (This is a gripe with a lot of older champs, I feel. Who's lines just make them seem very vague in a way... it's... hard to describe. But, I'm thinking about. Irelia )

Well, I've come up with a basis for an idea. Let's take all the other shadow isles champs first.

Elise deceives her followers into their deaths to sustain Vilemaw (the shadow isles spider) and by extension herself.

Hecarim seems to be a general of sorts to the Shadow Isles. It seems he wants the Shadow Isles to conquer the other factions, at least, having them live in fear of the isles.

Kalista wants to exact vengeance on all betrayers, perhaps including those who'd she'd been betrayed by. If she succeeds, however... it's an interesting thought as to what she'd do afterwards.

Karthus is a lich wants everyone to know the bliss of death. That's outright tame compared to the others, to the point where he seems to hate Elise and Thresh.

Mordekaiser lives off pain, and while perhaps a bit sadistic, it seems like he mostly uses the dead to do his bidding; whatever that may be.

Thresh tortures the living and the dead because he's a sadistic bastard. Plain and simple.

OKAY! ACTUAL IDEA STARTS HERE!

As for Evelynn ... Okay, I've thought about this, and I was thinking maybe she could be one of the grayer of the characters on Shadow Isles. Not nice , per say, but not outright evil like Elise, Thresh, and Mordekaiser. At least, not without reason.

Evelynn starts life as a dhampir, (half-vampire) or any other creature with mild fantastical elements. But, because she's a dhampir, she is shunned by the world, and despite her efforts, her entire life she is only treated with cruelty and hatred. Eventually, Evelynn becomes bitter and hateful. She becomes so consumed with hatred that she embraces dark magic to get revenge on those who wronged her, and, no matter what it took, she makes sure she succeeded. However, the hatred in her heart has poisoned her ; the humanity in Eve becomes invisible in her own skin. She becomes the Widowmaker, a restless, vindictive entity who will never find peace, and whose rage-induced rampages will never bring her peace. She's in her own personal hell.

I came up with the idea from Evelynn's abilities names. (Hate Spike, Ravage, Agony's Embrace, etc...) And while she seems sadistic, I think Thresh already has that domain covered for the evil in Shadow Isles. I think making hatred and holding grudges as Eve's fatal flaw and sin could really give her room to grow. And since she's so hateful, she could still be sadistic while also having a personality and a story beyond that. (Seriously, I love Eve, but her personality is as vague as everything else about her. :P)

Now, I'm not a great writer right now, but it's like midnight here. Tomorrow I can update it with an actual lore and it'll be much better, I promise.

But, if you're reading this before I get around to it, do you like the idea? Please let me now.

How long ago was it that the Rioter confirmed her from the Shadow Isles?

Also, being an assassin in the land of the dead is like being a tax collector under a communist state.

We don't know anything about Evelynn. Not even her personality.

I think that's the point. I always thought she had more in common with Shaco than any of the other shadow isle champs in that her origins are unknown as her motives. I don't find it a bad thing considering other champions have clearer motives than others, so she kind of stands out as being that mysterious "widow maker" that came out of nowhere and pops up when you least expect her to.

Now that I think about it, I can see why. Champs like Elise and Leblanc and Lissandra are mysterious to the characters in their world, but we as an audience already know (at least partially) their intentions. Evelynn really does stand out in that sense that even the audience doesn't know what she's up to... In that case, I think if the lore team updates her lore again they'll probably show her in action as an assassin. You know, WHAT she does but not why. It'd be nice to have a writer's workshop about League lore but those have only been suggested on the Roleplaying boards.

I'm glad you responded though. I really like this kind of stuff, even if I still have a lot to learn.

I actually doubt that karthus outright hates Elise and Thresh(since he is listed as an ally of thresh),he might not agree with everything they do,but that doesn't mean he outright hates them.

And to remain on topic: I think it depends a bit on which way Riot wants to go with evelynn. I mean they want to give her a more thematic identity, right now she is basically an evil stripper assassin.

You gave me an idea of a possible connection between the elf eared champions Janna Evelynn Zilean Urtistan may actually have some expansion with these champions....
