Kassadin has no relation to Targon?

It just seems a bit odd that they added all this cool new lore about how the Targonians battle against the evils of the void

and left out the original hero against the void.

item 3070 Kassadin item 3070

Edit: I'm not saying he needs to be from Targon, but they shouldn't have made Targon fight the same fight without mentioning Kassadin at all.

As it stands, I'm hoping they do a solo relaunch for him as a true anti-mage to go with this Mage update, as opposed to his current status of directly countering only two mages and indirectly countering those without targeted abilities just because he's mobile.

Well Kassadin might be busy elsewhere,I mean shurima also has a void problem and even bilgewater might have one(baron is related to the void and he is from the serpentine river, which is close to bilgewater)

It's not like every one that fights against an alien faction who uses different rifts/portals to come here has to be from the same place.

As GreenLore said, It might be that Kassa is a Shuriman or Noxian considering the fact that he is like this because of Malzahar and he was an assassin to begin with.

Just because he fights against the void doesn't automatically make him Targonian or from Targon. transitive property does not apply.
