What's the Point of a Fan Art Showcase...

If you

A: Take an extremely higher amount of digital art compared to traditional

and

B: Only accept "good" art

If we are voting for the best pieces anyways, why not let artists who may not be the most experienced or have a $500 tablet still contribute?

I was really excited when seeing this because I thought that, even though I was a traditional artist myself, maybe I could contribute. It feels shitty to send in something you're proud of and be turned down because it wasn't made on a screen or because it isn't "good enough", and every single piece is something insanely good that you are nowhere near able to create.

If you're going to open something up to the community to share works of art then how about letting everyone have a chance to contribute.

Give the people who aren't god-like with a tablet a chance to feel good about what they created, even if it isn't "the best" by your standards.

You're only showcasing the highest quality art, so stop advertising it as a "fanart showcase" if you won't even consider "below average" fan art made for you.

And before anyone says "but it'd be too many pieces"

Limit how many a person can send at a time. Maybe every month or so, refresh the showcase and allow everyone to submit a different piece. Like a submission of your best piece every month when the showcase starts again.

Not everyone in the community is the best artist, but some of these people still desperately want to contribute and be part of something like this. It'd be nice if Riot could do something for them, instead of showcasing artists who already have followers, make commissions, or are known in places like Deviant Art

Who's feelings are more hurt, guy A who spent a decade perfecting his craft, saved up to invest further into and then made some fan art, or guy B who did none of that and just wants the attention?

B's feelings are more hurt because B is a pussy.

The whole picking good quality art is a very subjective thing

But I think they should get a nice balance of Digital and traditional drawn art, there really isn't an excuse for the favoritism for digital outside of "It's easier to get"

Art is subjective people either like it or they don't unfortunately. If it makes you feel better i like writing short stories and have tried to submit a few to publishers and I've had both of them rejected lol. Never say that you are "bad" or "not good enough" at art be positive and say to yourself that you will become much greater. I wouldn't worry about not being on the fan showcase just keep drawing what you like and eventually you will gain recognition as a bi-product of your enjoyment. I don't work at riot or understand how this sort of community management goes, I'm just writing to say that you are not "below average" and with time you will become "god-like" too, all you gotta do is be positive and relax.

Yeah, I kinda like the whole judgement based on quality. If I'm on Riot's site scrolling through fan art I really only wanna see really nice quality things. This is coming from an art consumer. Letting users upload their own art without any sort of vetting process is ridiculous: you're asking for a cess pit of Rule 34 and unrelated nonsense. So they really have to have a vetting process. And if they have to have a vetting process, why not let the professionally trained artist's who are vetting the work decide whether it's of quality as well? I feel for you man, rejection really sucks. But you should see it as an opportunity to strive to get better and maybe even adapt to a changing medium as opposed to getting pissed off and worrying that you aren't good enough. If art's really important to you, you'll find a way to make that extra $500 to buy that tablet. Just keep getting better, mate. I can't wait to see your art someday!

so in short.....you are salty because your piece that you worked hard on didn't get in....so now you are going to partly blame tablet artists who probably worked just as hard on their pieces as you did?

It's probably been chosen by literally 1 or 2 people who spend 1 hour a month picking these things... so don't take it personally. I doubt it's a company decision to keep traditional art out and it's just those people's preferences. And to be honest ... I don't really care about the fanart showcase. What it mainly does it remind me to go to deviantart and pixiv and look for stuff there! I'm sure it has that effect on a lot of people, so it works out for underexposed artists in the end, if you think about it!

I'm a casual and the point of that fanart thing is kinda pointless.

But I guess a place to hold the professional quality art is probably what they strive for anyways.

I mean, regardless, it's still Fanart, and it's still being showed, so "Fanart Showcase" in literal terms, is correct.
