Why have champions been started to be waggish?

I mean, I'm not talking about their taunts or jokes. These specific quotes are supposed to be like this. But why do generic, movement and attack quotes are jesting and less serious, even for characters like Rhaast? Rhaast is a bloodthristy war machine that brings nothing but pain and death. And he feels so waggish, I don't get terrified by his quotes.

I mean, It is started to be annoying. I don't know.

I just don't want Evelynn to be another waggish, jesting character. I don't want another ''Ugh, you are annoying me, just die please" like thinking character even when they're evil as shit.

Mordekaiser is another champion that should be avoided from this. I would never ever want Mordekaiser as Rhaast. EVER.

Urgot is well made tho. He is a character that feels terrifying. Is it a shame or a success for designing a human character being far more terrifying than a darkin? Not sure.

Camille and Aurelion Sol don't seem as 'jesting' compared to the talking tree and the yordle on the lizard

It's hard to go full on dark and cruel without making them just ridiculously edgy. Jhin pulls it off really well, but a lot of dark champs in the past just end up as an edgy mess. And it isn't like the new characters are all jokesters, the only truly lighthearted ones are Rakan and Ivern, and even they get serious sometimes.

I had to look up "waggish". Y'all European English speakers are generating words at such a pace we aren't getting them over here fast enough!

As for the actual reason, I'd imagine it's because of how popular "quippy" characters are in pop culture right now. The big movie buzz right now is superhero movies, especially Marvel's Avengers stuff, and the dialogue in those films is like, 40% one liner. League is sorta in that same demographic of young adults, and so some trends are going to carry over. A champion who talks more is naturally going to be a little bit more memorable than someone who's dead silent, but I think there is a good middle ground to be found.

your post made me think about another topic on the forums asking why so many champions are overflowing with confident. all of them has this "you are all beneath me" or "no one can kill me" kind of attitude or take the fights and battles as joke or some annoyence that its no big deal for them like "im just here to kill you and go home so i can take a nap"

i kinda agree with you and them it takes away the diversity and gets really boring. i mean i cant think of a champion that is full of self doubt and fear with every voice-line. or someone who just doesn't want to fight, even Taliyah treats the fights like its some sort of game.

it reminds me of all the cliche bad guys in stories "muhahahaha you can never defeat me" 10 mintues later = "dies"
