Considering how well designed icons are these days the beginner icons can really use an update, they look outclassed and give me a S4 vibe any time I look at them, but overall they look very bland in comparison to other icons.
So what do you think, do they need an update?

Some people are attached to the old icons and it costs (effectively) nothing to keep them and others who want higher quality modern icons can easily get them by the time they've been playing for a few months. If Riot feels they need some new ones right off the bat they could just add a few icons to the set rather then replacing old ones.

I remember those icons from way before when i started playing and it reminds me of good old times. Just dont change them you have plenty of new icons coming out every patch just leave them as they are ty.
Itsbeghdev4 votesI feel like it'd be good to implement tabs of summoner icons: have, say, one for recently used, one for skin lines, one for events, one for esports, one for "basic", and one for "legacy". Put these in legacy, make new ones and put them in basic, have small pool of starter icons from the basic icons, unlock more basic icons through missions, unlock legacy icons at level 30 or after completing all of the basic icon missions or something. Have missions for level milestones and whatever in-game, maybe put in-game accomplishment icons based on a certain number for a single game be in a particular order... like, maybe you have to have done 7.5k total damage to champions in a single game before you can get the icon for healing 5k in a game, but you can get the icon for getting first blood, or a double kill, or first tower, or a dragon, or 100k lifetime damage to champions, or 10 PvP wins, etc. whenever. Maybe have different mission progressions for different things, like one for damage, one for CS, one for KDA, etc.

EDIT: SUGGESTION THOUGH. Narrow beginner icons down to like 5. Then have new players actually EARN their icons... for mundane stuff, like: First kill First First blood. First assist. 200 minion kills in a game. etc...

Doctor Dyment1 votesOh, but those old icons are so... good. I remember when I first unlocked all of those back in the day. Compared to what we have now and days, they're terrible. But I don't know. I kind of like having them, if nothing else but to see how well the art has evolved over the years.

It's good for League to move forward and keep improving. However, I believe it should leave something for us to remember the old days as well.
