I swear I heard of a story that I think Tahm Kench was based on about a catfish that deserves a grasshopper, telling it that it will escort him across the river in his mouth, only to eat him when they reach the other side. I just can't remember what the story was called or how to find it.

He's a demon who is the embodiment of an individual's flaws. Tahm Kench is not his real name, in fact, he doesn't have a real name. Tahm Kench was the name of the gambler who made a deal with the demon in "The River King" champ teaser.

The Demon's appearance changes from culture to culture, and what he looks like now is only how he's seen in Bilgewater. But yeah, what Solaire said. Demonic catfish.
