Now I am not gonna say "this should be his default" or "this should be a legendary skin" like so many other summoners do. All I am going to say is that I really like how this art portrays his tankiness without showing his skin. Ninjas conceal themselves as much as possible. There is no need for him to show off his biceps like Braum lt's ok for his Mortal Combat reference skins, but for his base... No please. I also really like his chest plate and the knee plates tied on with those sick ropes xD

As for his lore when it gets extended/revamped. I'd like riot shed some light on a few things I'd like to know:

  1. What is the Origin of the Kinkou?

  2. What was the defining factors to selecting who obtains the role "Eye of Twilight"?

  3. Is there some strong mystical entity the Kinkou worship that dictates and upholds balance #Bard #AoShin or is it mutual belief of the community to live in peace and harmony.

  4. What secrets do the Kinkou Order harbour? Is there some conspiracy within the Order?

  5. We all know how Zed and Yasuo got thier power. I'd like to know the origin of Shen's power.

[EDIT] 6. Is there some telepathic connection between the EoT and a Celestial Spirit/ The universe? If the stars are spirits and shen is "entrusted with watching the stars", does this mean that he has connection to spirits which in turn explain reason for his power.

I've focused my questions on Shen simply because I want to know more about my beloved champion and am uncertain to what Riot wishes to accomplish in the lore update. You don't have to expand on these points in detail for his lore, just explaning it in small discrete forms is totally fine. As for me, I don't like spoilers, I just want confirmation that several of my questions will be answered in the updated lore.

Kennen While we're at it, can we also get a look at Kennen as well? Of all the Ninja's, he just seems to be there just because he's a Yordle and has lightning powers. I'd also like to see his relationship with both Akali and Shen.

  1. If they ever update the ancient times of LoL the subsequent events of the Kinkou Order can be backed by that lore. I hope they think about working on those timeless ancient champions sooner rather than later.

  2. I have a feeling there may be some real-life knowledge that can be applied into the fictional role of Eye of Twilight. I cannot remember...

  3. In all human civilizations there are rules applied. For a thing such as Kinkou Order, an establishment that facilitates a function must be acting on behalf of Ionia or something else. It's quite a noble purpose and definitive not quite the idea that appears from creativity but from consequence, and so something must have happened early Ionia times (maybe an event of Shadow? Ionia vs Icathia?). Such places need discipline in their practices so there must be a constant threat (during early Ionia times) to evoke eternal vigilance, whatever that may be. It could be a man-made Order to replicate the will of celestial beings. Since Bard's first appearance in Bard: Mountain this may have inspired purpose in early Ionians and adopted a culture in honoring and interpreting Bard's will from which Ionia is now revered for its connection with The Grove of celestial beings (I like to call them Seraphs: Bard & Soraka). Leaves me to question where Angels may fit into this... **(Just an analytical theory of logical sequence of events) You'll notice near the end of Bard: Mountain how things disappear similarly to Shen's ultimate.

  4. I suppose their secrets, if any, can be derived from their purpose leaving those who are aware of the Kinkou Order conscious of theory and suspicion; rumors and conspirators. The specific secrets probably needs some more ancient-time lore to back it up...

  5. I think it's important that while LoL story and lore is being updated also needs to clarify the magics of Runeterra. I've done some suggestion before: MAGICS LORE

  • Spirit - The raw energy from a catalyst (the Soul) expulsed through exercising mind and body. (Ezreal, Bard, Soraka; potentially anyone)
  • Innate - The evolutionary unique being has an affinity for the magics they conduct directly from their Spirit. (Shyvanna, Syndra, Vladimir, Janna)
  • Gem - Ancient capacitors for magic (Taric, Skarner, Malphite). Filtrates raw and emanates refined 'healthy' energy from which Runes and Hexes siphon and instruct those magics.
  • Rune - Most accessible; most manipulative. Conjures and commands magic from wherever it appears from the planet/world. (Shen?) (This allows subsequent brands of magic to identify e.g. Zed's Shadow, Ryze's Arcane)
  • Hex - Magical alterations and curses that aggressively infuses magic associated with the Hex upon application. Can even grant illusion of immortality. Created by Runes. [READ MORE] (Varus, Aatrox, Ryze & Shadow Isle's Undead)
  • Ascendant - A sophisticated ritual of ancient Shurima (Azir, Renekton, Nasus, Xerath, Cassio) and of the Freljord (The Watchers, Lissandra) that grants immortality and maybe more. Could be all magics including Time.

I'm in a similar boat actually. Shen is my favorite champion and I've always wondered where exactly his power source comes from. At the moment I'm under the assumption that he is using some form of natural energy that only "The Eye Of Twilight" can harness. Hopefully the lore update sheds some more light on Shen and the Kinkou order as a whole.

Well, about one of the particular traits which defines the perfect Eye of Twilight is, among all others, the capability of extrude yourself from any kind of emotion. It's not a surprise since the final trial that Shen had to take on to become the Eye of Twilight was to look at the torture of his own father without showing any feeling or doubt. It makes sense considering that the Kinkou order had pledged to protect the balance of Runeterra at all costs (Yeah, Bard might have something to do with it, maybe inspired them), so it's no wonder feeling are considered a fault for an order who must sometimes take difficult decisions.
