The failed Ascensions, the Baccai, did they gain power from the failed Ascensions?

I think they might have some power, but their social situation interests me more.

To be approved for the ritual, you had to be one of the best and most honored people in the entire empire, and have passed thorough examination. To be broken by the ritual probably means that the priests made some mistake along the way, and you were not properly prepared, so that shame would be attached. Additionally, to go from hero to twisted wretch must be a horrible burden, socially and mentally.

Some day we get a Baccai champion to find out.

I feel like I know quite a bit about lore but what is a baccai

Edit: I figured it out it's a loading screen thing. My assumption is they have some sort of power but nowhere near an ascended.

Given that all magic is only technology at some point, it wouldn't be weird to have a process that is an intentionally flawed ascension spell as some sort of curse. "Twisted and Morphed"... yeah would fit for turning someone into a poison spewing creature that feasts on sucking the life energy out of others...

I thought failed acsendeds died from the process . It what used on those that have done great things for Shurima and was an honour. It made out in nasus and renekton lore that renekton took great sacrifice to carry his brother in knowing he could die. Where in the lore does it mention some went in and were failed so to speak? Maybe I misread those lores.

Either way, it might be that only successful ones are blessed with long life and power.
