My theory on how they will handle Fiddlesticks' VO

As all of people interested in Fiddlesticks VGU know, Riot had an interesting idea of making Fiddlesticks' VO multiple voices speaking at once to justify its desired creepiness of the eldritich horrors. But due to technical reasons, they seemed to give up that idea. Since the feedback was really positive, it appears Riot wants to take it in a different way though, as Roadmap still mentions different voices.

So... what if Riot still goes with multiple voices but not at once? What if Fiddlesticks speaks with different voices each line? Quotes giving the feel of multiple personality disorder, unpredictable, untrustable and ultimately inhumane.

An innocent kid sweetly asks and giggles "My favourite color is blood red, what is yours?", followed by another line that clearly belongs to a monster.

A woman screams in "Help meee! PLEASE!", ends with a terrifying, sadistic laugh.

Speech of an intellectual man turns into an unfathomable language in a quick twist.

A woman cries in grief, that turns to a laugh like in a psycho way.

insert uncomprehensible whispers here...Yess...

I dont know, I just want to give the concept. Nevermind the quality of the lines. CarnivalKnight would come with far better lines.

But I hope they go with that kind of creepiness.

Imagine if Fiddle steals the victim's voice and uses it to terrify the next target. He could use the voice lines of champions he previously killed.

I hope the way it works is the way the Scholar's voice works in Dark Souls 2. He has 3 voice actors who all speak on every line, but one voice takes precedence depending on the context. There's like his default voice, his female voice, and a way more distorted and angry voice. All 3 speak at all times, but on a few lines where he is either angry or recalling something emotional the female and angry voices are brought more to the forefront.

With Fiddlesticks being a horror character, I'm imagining it works similarly but with a twist. Physical threats get a man, pretending to be innocent gets a child, supernatural threats with the crows get a distorted demon voice, and so on for however many VAs they are giving him. They all speak on every line, but one is the "main speaker" depending on what the line is about.

Halo Gravemind would have been cool, but whatever

Riot never stated in the Roadmap that the multilayered voices wasn't working or that they were scrapping it though. Where are you getting this information?

They note that a lot of people were excited by the concept and that it was something they were going to do one way or another, they say nothing about being limited by technology. Furthermore, the technology for this is like, not even remotely close to new. All they'd do is just record multiple voices saying the same line, or even one voice and create several files with different filters applied, and then stack them together in a single file. It's been done ad nauseum for years now, so if Riot's not able to do it, then they have something seriously wrong with their sound team.

It can go three ways:

  1. Literally 3 or 4 diverse voices (Gender, age and pitch) speaking at the exact same intonation at the exact same time. Eh. Not the best.

  2. What you described... Several different voices SHIFTING into one another not in sync. Much better.

  3. Several different voices speaking in different TONES. Calm, Violent, Distraught, Sinister, Deranged. Kinda like Sigma in his Overwatch trailer, if he had more than one voice.

P.S. I just realized that some birds can mimic speech. Prolly not crows I know but its' a fantasy game... What if Fiddlestick as a demon is just recording the last words of his victims and then playing them back like a freaky Polly-wants-a-cracker stereotype. That would be AMAZING. Not having his demon speak like Evelynn, Nocturne and Tahm Kench would make him seem so much more... inhuman. Ofc whether Fiddlesticks is still a demon at all is up for debate because him and Nocturne are really infringing on each others theme right now.
